I’ve been using my AWU as my sole cycling computer for the last 5 months and it’s been great. But I’m a bit biased.
The only way to mirror your Apple Watch to a larger display would be to your iPhone. I’m not sure I’d want that on my bar or stem. Also battery life on the AWU is much better than iPhone in this instance. I got through a 5 hr ride with the AWU with HR and power sensors with ~40% battery left and I don’t think I started at 100% (I wore the watch overnight and threw it on the charger as I ate breakfast).
I was considering the Apple Watch Ultra as a bike computer for races where weight matters (ex. XCO), but read somewhere that the screen wont stay on so it’s no good, and therefore a Garmin Fenix would be a better choice. And if Apple somehow in the feature would make the screen stay on, the battery would drain to quick. Have I been misinformed?
WorkOutDoors is more like Garmin in UI a function. The downside is that you have to designate the power meter sensor if you have multiple power meters and also use an HR monitor. If I remember correctly, Apple only allows 2 BT devices per 3rd party app.
The default Workout app is much simpler but effective. I literally use the one screen w power/HR/cadence during an open workout. The benefit of the default app is that it automatically switches power meters
Nice. Then I’ll return my Fenix 8, which I found really underwhelming and overpriced, coming from Forerunner 955.
Going watch-less for a while hoping for a new Apple Watch Ultra 3 in September
