I guess I misunderstood your response. I thought you were saying that using it on things like the mower was the biggest benefit of using a whoop.
I was, but obviously something is off with the readings the previous poster is seeing. I regularly spend time on a 50hp tractor and play drums and haven’t ever seen anything similar during either activity. I do however see strain mowing 2.5 acres of yard and trails with a regular walk behind mower, as I should.
I train around 12-14hrs/wk, have a reasonably stressful day job, chase four kids, and have farm chores on a daily basis. WHOOP helps to account for all of this and better manage my training and recovery to keep things somewhat sustainable.
Yep! 100% agree! That’s why I was so surprised by the number. It has to be accurate to deliver that value. I’ll reach out to Whoop and report back.
Hi! I have been skimming this thread and I am contemplating trying out Whoop for 6 months. Some users have mentioned that the bicep strap works better for cycling workouts, but I don’t see this strap as an option on the Whoop web-site. Can the basic strap (Onyx) be worn at the bicep? Or, if a separate strap is required, can someone give me a pointer as to which one I should get. Thanks!
Unfortunately the basic band that it comes with won’t work as a bicep band (unless maybe you have Chris Froome sized arms). They used to sell them separately on the website for about $25 but I don’t see them there now.
Also, if you are looking to try it out you could DM me your email and I could send you a referral link for on $30 off.
I have one that I’ve never used. I put it on once, thought it was itchy, and never used it. I’ll sell it to you for half what I paid plus shipping if you’re interested.
Thanks for the offer; I will likely give the wrist strap a try first and see how that goes. I was wondering where the bicep strap was located on their web-site, but maybe they took it off now that Whoop 3.0 is available.
I bought mine with my Whoop 3.0
My guess is that they’re just out of stock
My Whoop Strap should be delivered tomorrow, so my experience is limited.
However, my understanding is that the bicep strap was deprecated in favor of the sleeves they now offer. As far as I understand, the strap goes in their and the sleeves do a better job of protecting, holding, and blocking light from the strap.
Hopefully they will put the Bicep Bands back up. While the sleeve may be better for certain activities, I wouldn’t want to use a sleave for everyday use, nor for outdoor riding. I find the Whoop on a bicep band tucks neatly under the sleeve of a reasonably tight fitting cycling kit sleeve.
My guess is that they ran out of the old bicep bands, of which there was only one model (black) that was in the 2.0 style. Hopefully they will be offering a new bicep band with the new improved grip textures (don’t care much about colors because mine is always hidden under the sleeve).
An update on the guitar issue: they told me to change wrists
Testing swapping my watch and whoop. So far I’ve checked my whoop for the time about 5 times this morning!
Slightly off topic - has anyone else observed that a double tap of the Whoop makes a terrific short-term flashlight in the middle of the night?
Also - has everyone upgraded to 3.0? I’m still one of those who’s got a 2.0, as they released the next model about 6 months after I got mine. I’m hoping Santa brings me the 3.0 this year
I emailed tech support out of interest regarding the biceps strap. Here is what they said:
“We are currently sold out and will have them back in stock beginning the first week of December.”
I’ve noticed that after using it for a long time I’ve gotten much better about sleep consistency.
Also it decides I’m under-recovered and the next day I’m sick like clockwork, so the strap must be making me sick.
Quick update on my under reported HR after contacting Whoop support.
First they wanted a picture of the strap on my wrist and then advised I might try it slightly higher up my arm.
So I’ve slightly tightened strap, and moved a little higher up my arm, maybe an inch, and tonight hr tracked my Wahoo strap perfectly. Quiet surprising how tight the strap has to be to get a good reading during workouts.
On this note, I’ve lost feeling in my hand during a couple cyclocross races because my Whoop strap was too tight. And it’s incredibly difficult to shift and brake when you can’t feel your hand at all. I mean it was completely numb! And it’s the same tightness that I have it set at on a daily basis, which doesn’t seem too tight. Granted, that was with the hydroband. I haven’t raced since I got the new 3.0 strap with the Pro Knit band. I’m racing Sunday, so we will see how it goes. The fix I found for this in the last race was to just reach over and unsnap the clasp so that it wasn’t locked. I’m wearing a long sleeve skinsuit anyway, so the sleeves on the skinsuit are tight enough to keep the strap in place and still record HR data. I’m hoping that the Pro Knit band is stretchy enough that I won’t have to do this. Also, I’ve never had this issue while riding the trainer, or on road rides. And I’ve done a couple mountain bike rides with the Pro Knit band, and didn’t have any issues. I’ll report back after my race on Sunday.
Interesting - I woke with quite a swollen wrist and hand this morning so have swapped band to other wrist today and loosened slightly.
My wrists are definitely on the thin and bony side, and it just hurt too much (on top of being less precise due to the wrists getting too many hits on the bike). So I moved to the bicep strap, and had zero problems since.
I put my initial problem down to my body being warmer for the second interval I performed and therefore that strap was slightly tighter and helped with reading. I saw it happen twice where later through a workout readings improved and were what I expected. I suspect during your race you got warm and caused some expansion of your wrist which lead to it being too tight.
How I plan to work, given I have one wrist slightly larger than the other is move the strap to the bigger wrist during workouts so its a little tighter and then move to other wrist for remainder of day. Hopefully I don’t get to point that strap cuts off enough circulation during a workout my hand goes numb like yours did @CoachNate!
