Anyone going to Boone NC Gran Fondo?

I’ve been on Trainer Road for almost a year now. I’ve seen some pretty good advances in power and a decent weight loss since then. I have decided to challenge myself with the gran fondo in Boone NC. I have not been able to coerce any of my riding buddies to go and was wondering if there might be anyone on here that might be going that I could at least meet up with?
I’m 60 years old and likely won’t be able to keep up with most on the timed segments but maybe I can at least make some new friends.
Thanks

The nice thing aboit GFNS events is that im between segments the group kimda come back together and rides at a chill pace to the next segment…so yeah, you may get dropped, but you may get back on and ride with the group after each segment.

@Mwinely Welcome to this Gran Fondo thing. I’m 70 and doing my third year of them. I’ve even been on the age group podium a few times, much to my own surprise. Rueben and his team do a great job, the events are really well organized and planned, with great courses. Although I’ve ridden for many years, I’ve never really raced and these GF’s have really amped up my enthusiasm for training et al. I’m going with riding buddy who is not trying to win the segments, as much as just see how it all goes. He did his first one last year. I don’t know where you’re located, but if nearby, i recommend showing up a day early and checking out some of the segments (going easy to preserve yourself for the next day) as that can really take some of the anxiety out of it. I use the RWGPS app to drive the course with the bike on the car, and ride some sections of segments that seem intimidating, or tricky. What length are you doing? Good luck!

Thanks Tom for the tips. I am doing the long route, 95 miles roughly. I hope to see you there!
