ABSOLUTEBLACK OVAL chainrings

Are there any oval chainrings that fits the XX1 Eagle Power Meter? Looking to go oval.

Is there a way to fit a 32 oval?

Thx

I know the dealer for AbsoluteBlack here in the US, and he runs oval chainrings with power meters. I can say that he’s never spoken of any issues with the brand.

Only the Assioma power meter can read the oval chainring correctly due to how they measure the power. Most power meters, (even Garmin pedals) from what I’m reading, use the average power of a circular chainring. (sorta, I’ve read somewhere). If you use a chainring power meter/spider type like P2MAX, you have to get the silver version of AbsoluteBlack. Otherwise, it won’t work. If you want the AbsolueBlack subcompact (46/30, 48/34), it won’t work if you have a spider-type PM like P2MAX, SRM, QUARK, etc. I use 34 oval from AbsoluteBlack on my P2Max NG eco. And install 46/30 on my Shimano Ultegra crank with Assioma Power meter on my climbing bike. So far I like riding AbsoluteBlack.

Do you know only the Silver version? The manufacturer according to Powermetercity.com says their PM’s are OK with them though
" power2max

power2max power meters are claimed accurate with oval rings by the manufacturer. Specifically, power2max says the cadence interval on their power meters is not discrete per crank revolution. Rather, the accelerometer data is sampled continuously, just like power data. In other words, they don’t make the assumption that pedaling velocity is constant and therefore, are not impacted by the use of oval rings."

Rotor’s power meters are also designed to give accurate power readings with Rotor’s oval chainrings.

Yes. If you go to their site and read the description under the current oval chainring (I use Shimano), it says that the version on the website doesn’t work with any spider PowerMeter (ex. P2MAX). (since it’s not the silver version) I also sent an email to confirm with them before I bought it. So I ended up googling to find the silver version from other online retailers. And I can confirm the silver version works because I have installed it on my P2MAX NG Eco. I would encourage you to read the disclaimer on the AbsoluteBlack website. You can be sure you get the correct information.

I don’t know which one claims to be accurate and which one isn’t. You could be right, I could be wrong. My information about oval chainring will produce an overvalue power on spider power meter was based on the reading that I read, While other PM uses an average of the circle to get to the number, Assioma uses a different method. I believe they measure the power at any given time in the rotation. (hence oval ring can be detected accurately). Of course, I’m oversimplifying the explanation here. You can go to Assioma web and read how their power meter reads the power.

I have never noticed a difference between power and RPE with any combination of power meters or chainrings. I will continue to ignore the supposed compatibility issues.
