2025 USAC off road nationals- Roanoke

Thanks.. what are the specs on that longer climb Warner mentions?

I’m not sure which one he’s referring to, perhaps he’ll elaborate in the video.

It’s mostly Buck, with a continuation onto the fire road to reach the top of Gauntlet. It’s about 3.5mi and ~900’

Ok, who’s going and what races/categories are you doing?

I’m going, or rather, I’m already here. I live in Roanoke and can’t believe we have the Nationals. Somebody must know somebody at USAC because we had road nats just a couple years ago. I guess cyclocross nats is next and honestly I wouldn’t be surprised because we have a long running UCI cross race here every year.

I’m doing the XCO for sure, XCC maybe. Old lady class 45-49.

The XCO course is pretty much finished construction wise, lots of folks out riding it yesterday.

Cool! I have a VRBO in Floyd that is set up for cyclists, so I’m coming up to work on the house some and then pass out flyers at the event. Probably Monday and Friday. www.velowaychalet.com

I’m doing the XCM race, 45-49 men. I’m doing it because it’s close to home and for the experience, not because I think I’m going to be competitive…especially since Jeremiah Bishop just registered in my age group

I rode the XCM (twice) and XCO (the longest one) courses a couple of weekends ago. Let me know if you have any questions about them.

What are the lengths of the longer climbs in each course? I’m still debating on making the trip.

Course maps with elevation profiles are shown here.

On the XCO course the longest climb is only about 150 ft, you cross a bridge over a creek, make your way back up to the road, through the start/finish and then feed zone. It’s not technical, just steep. On the XCM course it’s about 900 ft gain and at the halfway point, starting as technical rooty rocky singletrack then cresting to a ridgeline doubletrack where the gradient eases up a bit. You top out right before the big downhill, the Gauntlet.

The XCO course is punchy steep and short efforts separated by tight turns, classic east coast style. The XCM is more rolling power climbs, fast and flowy with only a few technical bits.
