2025 Triathlon Pro Race Thread

Looking forward to this one!

Men’s podium prediction:
1st KB
2nd Magnus
3rd Daniel B

Can’t even pick the Females. Feel it could pay out in so many different situations :man_shrugging:

Jaaaaaan is back.

Jason is such a beast on the run.

Gotta catch up on this tonight, but I was thinking Jan might have been a bit overlooked in this one. Dude has to have one of the best track records for constantly delivering when he shows up, and still probably one of the smartest guys out there.

Suspect Gentle/Findlay/Knibb in some order for the women, though Matthews and Jewett definitely have a look in as well.

I can’t wait to watch the highlights later on, but having seen the results… oh my :eyes:

Yes, fun race. Jan cruised. KB made a solid 2H run push. If Jason hadn’t had the mechanical, he might have been able to push Jan a bit. Jan looked so in control though, so I am not sure it would have been that close. Sam Long put in great work, especially given new family. If he can shave some time off the swim, he will be a force at this level.

Sam Laidlow appears to have been testing a Canyon road bike with TT front end in the lead up to Nice….

60t Chainring and 11-34 Cassette for Magnus Ditlev :exploding_head:
He certainly won’t be riding the climbs easy.

Having done Ironman Nice in June, I struggle to see that being a good move.
Some of the early climbing is pretty steep and even after that will still be doing a lot of cross chaining.

2.5hrs into the race and it’s looking worrying for everyone except Laidlow and possibly Ditlev

Frodo Lange 7mins back…

I’m not sure the tracker is accurate, but the game could change once the two main climb are out of the way

Skipper has been found in Monaco as predicted, he’s fine btw

Surely he didn’t get lost again?

I’m joking, but sadly he is 16min back, seemed last out of the water 6mins back, not catching up on the bike yet.

Apologies for the reflection, was doing 2hrs on the Fulgaz version of the IMWC course while watching

Looks like Laidlow found his legs - hope he can hang on.

Skipper 30 min back now - ouch.

Nice to see Rudy competing for podium.

It was always going to be hard to call this one, I think the result will cause shock waves for some time

Great race, can’t wait for 2025.

Laidlow is erratic, and he was not backing himself in the pre race interviews but his race plan was as expected. Win on the bike and see if anyone can catch him.

Lange’s run is a thing of beauty…but he let Sam get too far ahead on the bike.

Skipper must be sick or wounded. A 3h42 run just isn’t him. He looked all right two days before, joking etc.

Frodos injury was sad.

Rudy an impressive performance over his ‘22 Nice win but a ways to go clearly.

A lot of other big names will be going home and back to the drawing board or considering retirement…

I wonder how many pulled the pin once their day didn’t go as wanted.

Was rooting for Currie, but a 5min penalty due to littering and then ran a 2:58 where he’s run a 2:36 in Cairns

True enough, although I think you can add 11-12mins for a good run after a bike like that, see Lange.

Not pro race related, but curious if anyone knows how slots are getting allocated with the new format? A friend finished on the podium in IMWI for his AG (45-49)….not certain if that will punch his ticket or not.

ETA - never mind. Just heard from him…ticket punched!!

Who do you have for retirement?

I wonder if poor results here might be the catalyst for more athletes prioritising PTO events in their calendars next year. Joe Skipper, for example, has been pretty vocal and explicit about doing so.

Well I’m not saying they will, but if you’re in the older part of the spectrum and outside that top ten, you’ve got to be wondering if a WC win is realistic now. Laidlow, Ditlev, Iden, Blu…the guard has changed.

Unless these people choose not to fly to Kona next year so that an American can win? Would be good for the sport.

Yeah, I got that - I meant who do hypothesise might… Sorry, I wasn’t clear!

I heard the post race interview and Lange was called “last man standing” :joy:
