2024 XC Bike & Equipment Thread

Did the same. Dropped almost 4 pounds going with carbon wheels/lighter tires and from the NX to X01 mechanical.

Next up is putting on a carbon car, SID ultimate shock/fork, upgrading to ultimate breaks and oneup v3 dropper. Got the stuff… just need the time to put it on!

I totally forgot that I ditched the guide brakes and put XTR 9000 set on the bike.

I will update my post above but yea, I think I will be at 22.5-23.5lbs with the OEM fork and shock and be about $4.5k into it… Except I own all the above mentioned from my other bike already (minus a new wheelset).

So really I just need a wheelset, so when I purchase that I should hit that target weight for really only $3.2k… lol

I like a little bling!

Nice! The XTR brakes are almost a pound less compared to the stock Levels.

My 30mm internal EIE’s just shipped. They are 1320g and I will install with some new race kings, and a XX1 cassette/chain.

I’ve already removed the dropper in exchange for a carbon post.

Installed xx1 crank and XTR pedals and a much lighter saddle

I still need to install a carbon Race Face bar and a x01 RD.

If I find some XTR brakes for a good deal, I might be under 10kg.

Where did you get that weight? The only place I found claimed s works was lighter than the old one, and pro was only 130g heavier.

If that weight difference is in fact true, it is almost exactly the same as an element, except not in orange camo

same with Allied, they have FA now for their XX SL build, you can price a $12600 build with chris king headset, enve cockpit and zipp sw wheels, and you get to pick you stem length, crankarm length and have options like not including a saddle or tires. full xx sl powermeter build, level ultimate 4 piston brakes. another bike that’s $2K less than the sworks build and you wouldn’t have to spend a penny more to make it like you want!

the bc40 frameset with standard paint, FA and a chris king headset is $385 more than the sworks frameset with non-FA sidluxe/sid

They are comparing it to the old epic with brain. Reality is the Epic 8 is more epic evo, which is lighter than the epic 8.

you can save a lot of weight by replacing the seatpost with hardware from elita one (carbon clamp lowers, 2 peice aluminum uppers, ti bolts)
I got my transfer sl from 350g-314g

2024 Oiz M LTD XX SL, Size Large.

Maybe not the direct comparison you’re looking for, but 24# 6 oz ready to ride with:
2022 DT Swiss Wheels, Wolfpack Speed 2.4, Tubolight Inserts, 4 ounces of sealant in each wheel
Power Meter
2 x Wolf Tooth Titanium Cages
SPD Pedals
120mm Fox Transfer SL
Computer Mount

Without Pedals, Inserts, Sealant, Cages, and if it had the 100mm dropper, it should be 22# 12oz

This is heavier than my 2022 Oiz. The 2022 had the 100mm Transfer SL, but was 22# 8 oz - Bike, same wheels, lighter pedals, two bottle cages, mucky nutz fender, new sealant, ready to ride (Can’t remember if it had inserts). That bike had Eagle XX1 as opposed to XX SL Transmission. Getting ready to sell it I just re-weighed it as just over 23# with no pedals or cages, with the 2024 wheels and Maxxis Rekon Race Tires (Unsure about Sealant)

I have a lighter set of race wheels with race kings that chops a full pound off the ones on there now.

Not the best picture, but just took this:

Also, custom paint options (many at no additional cost) and US-made, which is a huge consideration for me anymore.

The weights are from specialized, the links in my post have the weights. I was comparing previous S-works Epic Evo frame to Epic 8 Evo Pro frame.

The BC40 is a sick bike, I really dig the aesthetics of it and of course it’d be way cooler to rep Allied than the big S. It is a bit of a bummer though that they seem to be 1-2 lbs heavier than the equivalent Epic in each spec level.

Spec frames and the roval wheelset are really light! Hard to beat!

I don’t know too many out there that are lighter than the Big S.

Can confirm.

That bike looks sweet!

I think I am going to give Nexties Alpha or Omega wheelset a shot but I have no idea what rim profile I should try.

Does anyone care to educate me on MTB rim profiles and why I would use one over the other? The bike is going to be a race bike and every ride beater. I am considering Kenda Booster 2.4 or Continental Race King 2.2 as my tires currently (would love a 2.4 RK option).

That’s very interesting as the frames themselves are only about 100g apart (seeing 1840g for the Epic 8, size L, and 1950g for the Allied, size L. Shock inclusive).

Even weirder it comes with a rigid post.

2.2 tires are below the recommended size for those large id rims. Doing so will likely put the side knobs closer to the center than the manufacturer intended and likely to increase rolling resistance and reduce performance. For your reference:
