She had stomach issues at Leadville that caused her to quit. Then she and Keegan drove to SBT for day 2 of the Leadboat and she DNS.

Replay of the womens race is on the UCI YouTube channel

Both men’s and women’s races are on YouTube. Couple of ads, but not crazy.

It’s pretty sad IMO that the “world gravel championship” has most people on road bikes. Hopefully they make the course a little tougher next year where they need 40mm tires at least. Sure there’s a lot of mellow gravel out there but for a world championship it could or should be a little tougher. Maybe this year they are testing the waters? Who knows; I hope MVDP wins.

The response to the North American gravel events where you could earn UCI points was very poor with low turnouts and one event being cancelled due to low registration. I suspect this played a role in moving Worlds to Europe.

:canada:

GCN+ and YouTube UCI stream are both working.

GCN has went down in the last lap :-1:

Its back 16km to go.

Wonder what happened to Oss? Mechanical, crash, dropped? It’s not a gravel race unless the key move at the front is missed by the cameras.

I tuned in a bit late and didn’t see the original 2-man break form. I kind of expected it to be brought back, but the group behind didn’t seem to cooperate too well.

The course was beautiful, but also a bit boring. Gotta start somewhere… let’s see how it progresses.

I know one the guys who made this. The whole series is excellent and well worth watching

Van der Poel has already put his strava up :open_mouth:

Today I learned that Europe apparently doesn’t have a lot of good gravel roads!

I think I understand why you might not understand the charm of gravel riding if you live in Europe.

The course wasn’t great, even rubbish me would ride a road bike on those gravel paths, at least while it’s dry. Strade Bianchi or Tro Bro Leon are better gravel courses.

But what let this really down was the racing. In the women’s race, the strongest riders went early, and I guess the chaser were just not the same category of riders and couldn’t bring it back. Racing with oddly selected (as in, some pro roadies, some pro MTBers, some privateer gravel racers) national teams doesn’t help. At least the front group was big enough to make it a bit interesting.
In the men’s race, team tactics/loyalities made for boring racing. There was no interest in bringing the front group back. Maybe stronger teams would have helped too.

If there is the token “Gravel” stage at TdF. Does he wear the rainbows for that stage only? Does Remco have to take his off? Do they both wear? Who wears at Strade Bianche?

Maybe when they do a stage like La Super Planche des Belles Filles Remco has to stop at the start of the gravel section take off his rainbow jerseyand put on his normal jersey. Meanwhile he has to stop take off his normal jersey, put on the rainbow stripes and ride the final gravel bit of the climb as world champ?

In the interview on GCN they ask peter sagan why he is choosing to ride a roubaix rather than gravel bike… He says well because its a faster bike and is better! lmao

They should have responded, “ yes but we are trying to convince people who already own a road bike and a cyclocross bike to also purchase a gravel bike!”

I’m watching now. Boring, but mostly bc I think MVDP and Sagan don’t want to chase down their trade team teammates. A course like a strade bianche with many decisive climbs would be cooler than this.

I must say that was the most disapointing sporting event i have ever seen. The course was far for challenging- have the UCI and the promoters ever been to a gravel event?
