2020 XC Bike Thread

Thansk guys, not even a different fork, as far as I can tell. Both have lefty ocho. I realize, the XT vs. SLX question was kind of a silly question, but it didn’t fully hit me until I put it in writing and hit submit . . .

Maybe i’ll see what the market for (lightly) used carbon wheels are these days. I suspect it wouldn’t be economical just because of the drop-off in resale price once you use something (trust issues, etc.), but i’ll check it out. Thanks!

Yeti hard tail!!

Only 100 available, only one build kit @ $9900

Surprisingly it has a 130 fork, 67 ha, and their own in house wheels. You’d think you’d at least get some enves for the price.

My Ripley shipped today. Won’t get it until Monday though. No clue how light I can build it but guessing 26 lbs? Looking forward to riding an Ibis again.

New Orbea xc frame as well

Same debate for me. I ended up getting the 2 as it’s got a better kit on it, the fabric multi tool, and of course the wheels.

I couldn’t be happier with the bike - it’s my first new MTB for 15 years so it’s a total step up. It’s relaxed, fast, light - 100% fun.

One of the things that worries me about the bike (future looking) is that some of the key components are non-standard - wheels, lefty fork.

There’s two videos on YouTube where the same guy reviews both bikes. Both a great bikes - but what you can afford

Scalpel Review

I don’t believe it’ll be a new frame geometry though. New material but based on the number of cracked frames I’ve seen among friends not sure I’d buy one. And the launch from Orbea this year is really horrible. I’d fire each and every developer in the team responsible.

Comfort is indeed a valid reason to reduce tire pressure and it will make a racer faster. When you are three quarters through a race, HR at 90% of max, legs feel like jelly, and you are trying to catch your breath on the downhill section it is very nice to have a lower tire pressure to take out some sting from the trail.

2021 scale. I’m excited to see price and specs on Scott’s lineup.

How much was the old one then? Because my Oiz:es from 2020 are light as hell. Can’t imagine hem being much more than 1800g…

EDIT: 1600g without shock. So don’t know how much the Fox-shock is but can’t be all that much.

They say the new one is 275g less.

They do also say it will be available as just a frameset in the next few days

Their frameset vs complete prices are outeffingrageous, though -or at least they have been. I’ll stick with my heavy frame, methinks. I have an M10 TR & am seriously considering a Fox 32 SC to sharpen the steering a bit. I have a volume spacer in the rear shock effectively shortening it to 40mm stroke/100mm travel.

The 2020 frameset was 3500 so I imagine this one will be the same.

So a little higher end but in line with higher end brands like yeti, trek etc are charging the same.

I’m going to be looking for a frameset this winter to transfer all the parts off my scale, but it’s hard to justify this one for $3500, when you can get a 1900g intense with much more progressive geo fo $2500.

Although the weight is tempting. With my current build kit I’d be at about 21.8 lbs on the Orbea with dropper post and pedals.

Assuming you are looking at the Snipers, they tend to be “love it or hate it”. Intense tunes their VPP to have a ton of anti-squat (significantly more than 100%), so keep that in mind depending on your terrain.

Intense’s offices are in an area in SoCal where there are lots of smooth sandy climbs up and chunky descents down, so their bikes tend to express a similar type of strength/weakness that’s somewhat evident in the high pedal kickback value.

That’s the best looking bike on this thread.

I agree. I think the oiz has always been a very good looking bike.

Thanks for the comments about the intense. I’m going to demo one before I make my decision. I’m in the Midwest

FYI, my XL epic with XTR pedals, cages, togs, 2.3 fast tracks and a 210mm one up dropper is 24.25 lbs.
