12% price increases coming for many bikes - if you can even find one

Looks like prices were increased by $500 (or more?)

Sworks Epic frameset is now $6k and I thought it used to be $5k?

I’ve been window shopping bikes lately. Seems like the carbon/ultegra di2 /disc category is now pushing close to 7k in a few brands. Just eye watering.

Tarmac SL7 price increases: S-Works $5000–>$5500, Pro $3000–>$3300. Now I can say I’ve made an investment buying the Pro frameset at $3000.

Even the Allez Sprint frame got a price increase.

Damn I’m happy I pulled the trigger on my Specialized enduro it went up by $200 since Monday

Oddly this was recommended to me on Youtube. No idea who this guy is, but you can hear the anger/frustration in his voice.

yeah, i just checked the giant website and the tcr pro disc has gone from 4300 → 4500 → now 4700.

hard to justify a ~10% premium on the same bike in less than a year. Same with the SL7 expert, a cool 10% increase there as well.

i’ll either just hang onto my current bike or grab something used i suppose!

Do you think this is a long term change or something to dissuade people from ordering bikes that are out of stock?

@D_LICHTENBERGER I moved your post into this existing thread that discusses this from many angles (and already includes some comments on the latest increases).

Much like a $200,000 Mercedes S-Class or a $50,000 Patek watch, the S-Works is not targeted towards normal people, but luckily specialized makes a ton of affordable bikes for the rest of us which are only marginally “slower”

Wow I just noticed this last night. I bought a ShivTT disc frame at $5500 MSRP just last week, and last night it’s $6000… I guess I got “lucky”

It’s a funny rant, really. He touches on pretty much all the factors that are influencing this, and yet he seems to be in complete denial of the fact that they all add up to increases in steps. I can’t say for certain that the full price adjustments are “justified” in every way, but there should be no surprises here. This is happening pretty much industry wide.

Couple that with the fact that dealers all got notified of these pending changes last week, and his “surprise” is odd to me. Maybe he missed that notification on the dealer landing page? And instead of guessing and venting, he could call his rep and get some direct answers. I understand the frustration from one angle, but he just seems to be missing the reality that we have in this current state, and not utilizing the tools he has ready access to use.

Indeed. I remember early on people seemed to be blasting Canyon and Specialized specifically, but this is across the board. Some more transparent brands have put out official releases basically outlining in detail how they’re impacted. As pinkbike summed up in the link, pretty much every manufacturer is dealing with the same handful of suppliers. Doesn’t really explain why some brands are jacking up prices at quite such a quick rate, and others don’t seem to be - but it does help to inform the buyer about why it’s difficult to acquire a bike and why said bike is more expensive.

I don’t even speak German but for some reason just watched the entire Propain video. Slow day in the office.

Lol, slow YEAR at the office!

LOL.

Price increases due to “rising costs”.

Yea. Opportunity costs, that is.

Bike Company: “We’d be stupid NOT to gouge these idiots…”
Me (idiot): “Take my money and then some.”

Meanwhile all the cyclists “outraged” at Giant raising prices are over on FB selling their bone stock 2017 “lightly” used Allez Sprint 105 for $2,999.

Profit for me not for thee.

Guess I’m riding the ole 2016 Cannondale for a few more years.

My question is, will the prices ever come back down?

Why should they? They are high and people still pay that amount of money. I do not see why companies would like to bring them down and earn less money.

Agreed, bikes are hardly expensive items when you consider cost per mile. In the same way that some people will change their car every year for the new model, some people do that with their bike. Others will run the same bike for 10 years. You pay your money you take your choice, businesses are in the business of making money.

That’s a perfect line of thinking if you’re actively trying to avoid facts. There’s a reason bikes are sold out for months, and it’s not because manufacturers are purposely holding back tons of supply to get an extra $500 per bike.

Just curious if you have experience sourcing products from Asia?
