Sounds great. Glad you’ve got all that behind you. Not to argue, but so you know why I said that, it was because you said,
No worries - re-reading myself it sounds worse than I meant to - my bad.
Nice. The Roadmachine was one I definitely would’ve had on my list if it wasn’t for the cost. Aesthetically speaking, the Roadmachine was my favorite of all that I was considering. It was also Ben Delaney’s endurance/all-road bike of the year this year, and he rides a TON of bikes.
Sounds like you’ve had a fit and know what size you do/don’t need, so I wouldn’t worry too much about having buyer’s remorse for any of the bikes on your list. I’d be wiling to bet you’ll love whichever one you go with as long as you’ve done your due diligence beforehand.
That’s been my experience with BMC bikes as well: they just figured out how to make really nice riding bikes, which are well-balanced and not boring.
So… Giant Adv 2 (2025) with mechanical is 2300 eur
A BMC Roadmachine or even a BMC Timemachine (which I’ve been recommended over the roadmachine, and is in fact right for my size) put me at 2880 eur. The specs are basically the same, except the BMC does not have integrated cockpit, but it does have a full mechanical 105 (Giant cheaped out on the drive train). Also, I think the BMC is lighter.
500 eur difference is not negligible but while I’ve heard some people complaining about Giant, I haven’t heard many complain about BMC.
Iv not long bought a trek Domane, feels really nice to ride. It’s got 32c tyres on it and doesn’t seem any slower than my Supersix. The Domane has probably the most upright position of all the endurance bikes,.
I was originally looking at the giant defy but the new model was pretty much the same geometry as the Supersix, actually with the stock stem the bars would’ve been lower.
Here I am, a week and more later, nothing solved. At this point I’m quite convinced about BMC: according to the LBS a TeamMachine could work for me and in the future will be easier to sell, as it caters a wider audience. I checked and I think he’s right: of course it’s more aggressive (Race Geo), but I think it could work for me, at least on paper. I’d still be happy with a RoadMachine, and the obvious answer here would be to try both and then decide, except I can’t The bikes must be ordered by the LBS, who doesn’t have them “in-store” and I don’t know 1. how long it will take 2. If he will get both 3. If I’ll be allowed to “try it”. At this point I can either get a Giant Defy (but it would be a FOMO decision) or wait May (I leave here in a month) and see what happens then, but I’m not pleased…
It is winter, so why are you in a rush to get a bike. You could, in case you don’t like the BMCs, still get the Giant Defy in May, no?
I can wait, not a problem at all, but I expect that in May things won’t be much different, and this is truly the situation where “try it” does make sense, considering the TM is a more aggressive position. Anyway…thanks for the help!
The more aggressive position is why I prefer the Teammachine over the Roadmachine, it fits my body and riding style better. It was in the final selection a few years back when I got a new road bike. I opted for the 3T Strada in the end, but I am sure I would have been very happy with the Teammachine, too.
Maybe the best thing you can do is try and ride any endurance bike and race bike to see what you prefer to ride.
