Flush thoroughly with cold water. Hot water will melt the wax and remove it. OK to wipe or brush the chain exterior. You won’t brush the wax off where it’s really needed - inside the rollers and on the pins. Top up with Silca drip wax if you want to extend the duration between waxings.
FWIW, I switched to drip waxing as it’s easier for me than immersive wax. Treatment after a dusty ride is like I describe above. But I use Tru Tension Tungsten drip wax. Found that to be better than squirt, smoove or silca.
