W/kg and Racing Catagory...do tell

I’m 40, with FTP of 336 and 86.6 kg for about 3.88 watt/kg. Currently a cat 4, and plan to upgrade to a 3 later this year (I think I have enough points already, but why rush it). I won once this year and had a couple of podiums.

Around me (mid-Atlantic US), I’ve observed that raw watts, one-two minute repeated power, and the ability to draft well count for a lot more than watt/kg. I ride mostly with cat 2s and I can generally stay with them, as long as I’m smart about positioning and stay in the draft. I’d encourage people not to obsess over watt/kg. Positioning, drafting, and riding smart, are worth at least .5 watt/kg or more.
