It’s spelled Sofia :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Is this a statement of sisters know best :joy:

This thread is amazing to me, I think Keegan did awesome. I remember Lance Armstrong attempting to beat the Leadville course record and almost accomplished that with a flat tire for if I recall 3-4 miles. I would like to see the WT guys race Keegan on his turf personally.

As far as Valverde beating Keegan in the sprint, Keegan crashed and from what I read did a lot of chasing and the majority of the work trying to catch the leaders. Valverde, a phenomenal athlete and tactical road racer was just there. I think Keegan with his starting position and all things given just missed the move, maybe he still would have gone 4-5th place but its just racing and he did great.

re: the possibility of Kasia wearing the stripes at Big Sugar (or Pidcock at Little Sugar), I was thinking about it this weekend and my guess is that it won’t happen…I’d be willing to bet the UCI ahs informed both of them that if they wear the stripes outside of a UCI-sanctioned event, they will face a penalty / sanction as a result.

because, you know…it is the UCI. :man_shrugging:

I don’t think that the UCI has that jurisdiction. They can wear it out training.

I would expect Kasia to wear it. I wouldn’t think Pidcock would. He (I think) has too much respect for the jersey to wear the XCO jersey at an XCM.

Training, yes…but if they race in other organized events, the UCI can definitely sanction them.

That said, I just heard Cole Patton say that he will wear his XCM jersey at Leadville and Sea Otter and I don’t believe those are USAC events, so :man_shrugging:

But I really hope she does.

Agreed on Pidcock either way since it is XCM.

I don’t think the UCI has any jurisdiction on someone wearing their world champ jersey outside of UCI events.

They can fine a rider for having the wrong jersey on, or the band’s in the wrong place, on their own start line/race. They can’t stop Kasia doing a corporate ride for money wearing the jersey on a unicycle, I don’t imagine they can have much influence on the races that turned their noses up at the UCI.

On that note, it was interesting seeing a few comments on IG bitching about how lowly Keegan and the Americans were ranked after finishing so highly (against 2000+ :man_facepalming:) at the “biggest” gravel races. I don’t necessarily think that the US gravel scene should capitulate, nor that they would, but it is far from unreasonable to garner respect from one series to another.

I think Kasia would be silly not to. It will be interesting to see if she does turn up, and in what capacity.

Agreed, but the difference is whether it is an organized race from a competing race series / event.

A similar example was back in the early days of MTB racing when it was governed by NORBA in the US and road by the USCF. The USCF kept threatening to sanction riders who participated in a NORBA event if they held a USCF license.

they can’t stop her form doing it but I believe they can sanction her afterwards if she does. I think they would dumb if they did, but it is the UCI, so…

Any race officials on the board that can chime in perhaps and offer clarification?

I think that’s a pretty different scenario, but I see where you’re coming from.

They didn’t sanction Lambie when he wore his track IP Rainbow jersey in some gravel racing. If that doesn’t make a mockery of it enough, wearing the Gravel World Champs jersey at a gravel race I think will pass them by.

It only helps to strengthen their Gravel series in the American market.

I thought he just had the stripes painted on his bike…did he wear the actual jersey, too? :scream:

I know that (at least back in the day), you could wear a championship jersey (world or national) outside of your discipline if the organizers asked you to (assuming it was organized under a UCI-sanctioned body). I saw Mike McCarthy race several criteriums in the early 90’s in his track WC jersey because organizers requested it.

I thought that was what I remembered seeing. Hopefully not misrepresenting him.

Next year’s edition will be very different. Can turn into a mud festival:

I will miss Veneto, 2025 back in the South in Nice. And then Down-Under!

I kind of get this feeling that UCI is going to be a bit more involved in the gravel scene next year. Whether that is more integration between the lifetime grand prix or pros looking to do more of the UCI events. It seemed like all of the feedback from the people that did the world championship this year was taking it more serious next year. Last year nobody cared at all. Maybe it opened some eyes to life outside the LTGP?

Just came here to post this. Crazy stuff.

EDIT: he’s got a longer clip in his IG stories.

Maybe we need some kind of Ryder Cup event?

Would be fun to watch.

Is Keegan Swenson good at golf also?
No end to the man’s talents

That’s probably a bad example - seems like that would constitute unauthorised commercial exploitation of the UCI brand, with potential copyright/trademark infringement implications - more doubtful whether just lining up for a race in the jersey would lead you into those waters (unless you’re being paid to do so).
