I don’t have a problem with deciding to sleep. But it would have killed me to DNF. I think that one of the guys could have taken a leisurely lap that ended after noon while the others buttoned up the RV and got ready to leave. Then just throw the last bike in a go. Then at least they would have gotten credit for the work that they did.
