Tempted to buy a Specialized Epic Evo - first time MTB for a roadie - good idea?

I have not used the new AXS shifter that came with the SRAM transmission groups, but the old version of the SRAM AXS shifter (that is also compatible with transmission) can be used as thumb-thumb or as thumb-index finger. Clicking the front part of the shifter drops the chain to a higher gear.

Cable shifter! Not wireless. More options in wireless, yes. Having said that, Shimano’s 12sp cable shifters are excellent for MTB as you can move the chain 4 gears at once, which e-shifters need click click click click.

Sorry, my bad.

I bought the same comp carbon evo about a month ago on mega sale and have no regrets about it. I had cracked my previous bike (rocky mountain element) and desperately needed to find a replacement quickly as I have a race coming up (saturday!) and was sick of riding road bikes.
I swapped my choice parts over (biggest improvement was carbon wheels and a fox 34 fork) and felt great.

I have the reguarly Epic (100mm travel) and absolutely love that bike (after the BRAIN lobotomy). I am more of a roadie but have really enjoyed mountain biking. The Epic EVO is an awesome bike and one I recommend all the time. It is very capable as a cross country race bike and has eough travel with slack enough geometry to have a lot of fun with on more technical trails. You will not be disappointed.

I got into MTB while living in Chicago. 30-45 min drive each way to the trails. 1x ride per week. My weekly ride was one of the things I looked forward to every week, and the drive was totally worth it.

My MTB area is 40ish minute drive. For reasons of being busy, I have only been going on weekends. But I used to go a minimum of twice a week. I’ll occasionally drive a couple hours round trip for “local” riding.

While I really do enjoy road riding, it doesn’t come close to riding MTB to me. The only thing I do that comes close to the thrill of MTB is taking my motorcycle to the track. Even flying airplanes is less fun.
