Strava is requiring users to not block tracking software?

Oh yeah, try Chrome. If the same computer and the same Internet connection simultaneously doesn’t work in FF but does in Chrome then you at least narrowed it down to browser/extension related.

I just successfully logged in using Firefox with Privacy Badger on my Apple MacBook.

That could be I suppose. This morning, I can’t get Firefox to get me logged in, same dance. I like the idea behind Mozilla and Firefox, but it’s not working well all of a sudden.

I haven’t been deleting my full profile because of how much is in it that I need, but will have to wipe it clean and see what happens.

I’m sure there’s some trick to load FF with a default profile without destroying your main profile

There used to be with Mozilla, and Netscape. Both long gone. I’ll look around. I really don’t like Safari on anything but an I-device.

Restarting in ‘troubleshoot mode’ did not get me into Strava. That is no extensions, no themes, etc…

Crazy…

You said you’ve done some web development. Open up the browser development window and see what’s going on. Sure you’ll soon find what it’s objecting to.

Interesting - I’ve had an instance on a couple of PCs in the last week where I’ve been unable to log in and have had to turn off my VPN (that has some ad blocking built in) to get past the login screen, then turn it back on. Sounds like there’s some referencing to another domain or similar going on that is being blocked.

The other FireFox feature that has caused issues for me on other websites is FireFox’s built-in Strict Protection (if you have this turned on). So even without any extensions, FireFox itself can “break” some website’s login. But usually after logging in, I can turn Strict Protection back on, and I stay logged in

Turned off Custom Protection, restarted Firefox: nope.

Looking in the Web Development Tools and got the following yellow issues. No real ‘badness’.

This is getting BIZARRE!!

I tried to login to their Community Hub, and can read everything, but trying to post a question, I get:

I AM LOGGED IN TO THE DAMN COMMUNITY!!

WTF IS STRAVA DOING??

Are you using iCloud private relay on your Mac? I’m not even sure it’s offered on the Mac, but on my iPhone it caused a lot of weird issues that were resolved by turning it off.

Nope. I had to turn off a lot of Apple’s security goodies because they either didn’t work well, or wouldn’t play on our network.

I can still (so far) access Strava on the iPhone, so it’s not a crisis, but why am I having so many issues. I’ll be trying my MacBook Pro out in the wild soon, so see if it’s something here. I’d love to upgrade our wifi, but if it’s just for Strava access, it might not fly with the wife.

Thanks for all the posts. It’s got me stumped. I was expecting something meaningful from the browser tools, but it was just chaff.

Oh, I haven’t checked to see if Garmin Express still works. :person_shrugging:

Posted the data at the Mozille support blog, no comments yet. This is a lot like the Garmin Express issue. Likely some little switch is flipped, or bit of lint is stuck somewhere.

I’ve also had problems logging into Strava on desktop browsers (especially Firefox) in the past couple of months. Doesn’t seem to be privacy extensions or browser settings for me either. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Most people that I heard from said it was extensions because they were the most guilty for breaking sites. Now I’m not so sure. I don’t think it’s something malicious on the part of Strava, but it remains a small possibility though.

It’s not all that unbelievable that an update can kill things, but not having a way to find out what the problem is, and how to potentially work around it is humbling…

So I just tried logging in with Firefox, and it worked. I have the following extensions:

  • Enhanced Tracking Protection set to Strict Protection - not an extension, but including it for completeness
  • Adblock Plus
  • Privacy Badger
  • Facebook Container

Interesting. I reported the ‘broken site’ to Mozilla, Privacy Badger, and Adblock, so manbe it worked. Stranger things have happened.

I’ll load up the Windoze machine and see what happens. Thanks!

Oh well…

Are you using Firefox Multi-Account Containers (Settings → General)? If not, enable that and create a new container, and try logging into Strava in the new container. The container is essentially a walled garden that will block previous cookies / files / cache
