Heat the tip of an awl or small Phillips head screwdriver with a lighter and poke it through.
They are. The 3v’s are about the same dimensions as the 303’s (not the “S”).
What the hell? NOW you guys post about awesome tape?
Thanks for nuthin’.
Another trick to ensuring a better seal under the bead is to use wide tape and let it ride up the edges of the rim a little bit. For example I use 1in (25cm) tape on 19-22mm rims and 1.125in (29mm) tape on 23-25mm rims. In a pinch you can use narrower tape on wider rims by wrapping the first layer biased to one side and the second layer biased to the other.
What’s that, do you have a link to the exact products?
I found some of what he was talking about on Amazon. Search Green Powder Coat Masking tape. Comes in a bunch of widths.
Example :[https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GUFBGPG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3N5MASZQR7JV2NRGAZ0W](Green powder coat masking tape)
unfortunately it’s much cheaper for me to just buy stan’s tape from a webshop in my country than that because of delivery
Check ebay, I’ve got some on order from China with free postage.
Is the powder coating green tape PET tape?
I use that for sealing seams when back purging welds on stainless.
Insert that’s a write off gif here.
One update/question and one “vent”:
-
Ordered tape directly from Flo… figured use the tape for the wheel, but in the future I might try the green tape above… since I can get it on Amazon for slightly less and free shipping… AND ALSO NOT HAVE IT TAKE TWO WEEKS TO GET. Seriously, Flo shipped the tape on April 4th, and DHL is saying it’ll get here on the 16th. It’s going from Michigan to California. I could’ve ridden there and picked it up in about the same time (probably not). But holy crap. I’ve gotten parts off Ebay from China faster. Hopefully it gets here “early”. Won’t be ordering from Flo again!

Update/question: walked out to the garage this morning to take my daughter to school, and the rear wheel that I set up last week without much issue was completely deflated and off the bead. Now, I rotated it once earlier in the week because it hadn’t been used, but I hadn’t aired it up since after I put the sealant in eight or so days ago.
Is that normal? I know tubeless tires lose air, and the tire definitely lost air slower than my latex tubes, as expected, but it was a bit unnerving to see it not just flat, but back off the bead… I thought it would hold air much longer as my MTB tires do (they lose a psi or 2 in a week). Maybe just a function of higher pressure, lower volume on the road tire?
It reseated just fine, inflated back up to 90 psi and it still holding steady about 10 hours later. Haven’t soaped it to look for any kind of micro-micro-leak yet, but that might be the next step.
OK, I’ll go store it sideways and make sure it gets rotated daily, see how that goes. I did shake it all over God’s creation after putting in the sealant, but maybe it settled out through the week.
Did you ride it? I had the Aeolus Pro 3V hanging up for months before they started getting squishy when squeezing. Can’t recall any coming off the bead. I set the bead on my Terra’s earlier this week, they deflated within hours without sealant. But had to break the bead to check if another tire (5000 S TR) would go on with thumbs. The tape job on the Aeolus was so good they held pressure for a week without sealant.
I’ve had that with road tyres, they pop off when they deflate when fresh. Never had it with wider tyres.
You need to ride it. I’ve found riding a tubeless tyre early, especially with slightly lower pressure, solves most issues. I think it really seats the tyre and forces sealant into the last gaps.
I’m using whatever tubeless tape I can get cheap. Tried gorilla tape once on cross wheels (so lower pressure), but it failed to seal around the valve suddenly during a ride. Think it’s too flexible for higher-pressure applications. Not worth it, just use dedicated tubeless tape.
Rode it only briefly around the the neighborhood when the front one was still leaking. In the end, when I get the new tape in on the front wheel, I’ll check both, seat both, top off sealant as needed, and take it for a more proper ride to get things settled in.
With Enve 5.6 circa 2017, and it’s more narrow 19mm (?) inner width, I used to spin them around, set in a box so that sealant was coating sidewall/rim interface on one side, and flip them once an hour for half a day or so. Periodically pump if necessary. I did get a few sidewall orange weapage at certain spots on the rim.
I’ve got it on its side in the garage now, I’ll flip it in the morning when I go for my ride.
Once an hour pick it up, throw and spin so it comes back to you. Do that a few times. Turn over and let it rest an hour or two. Repeat.
Your rim is shanking lol, and since you live in a golf mecca I suggest you listen to Cheech Marin explain how to fix the situation
Its normal if you set them up and don’t use them. If you set up a tyre easily it often deflates quickly. Using it though seems to disperse the sealant and I don’t have do anything special other than top it up with air every few weeks.
Which tires, sealant, etc? Some tires hold air better than others. Some sealants coat better than others, flow better than others with less volume of sealant.
Flo 30 alloy wheels
Schwalbe Pro One
Bontrager sealant (will be using Stan’s on the next try with new tape)
