First video I’ve spotted regarding the changes. Its a paid promotion, but it mentions the electromagnetic resistance system, and talks about some improvements to the shifters and the feedback that it provides.
The external design looks identical though.
One of the things I took away from the video is that you can flip the aero extensions and have them extend beneath the bars, which is what I’m going to do now!
This was one of the first things I did when I got mine. Im not a time trialist so I’ve no need for them and they just clutter the bar area. Great tablet holder though and works fine flipped!
I was two days out of the 30 day trial period with my Wattbike Atom yesterday but decided to give it a go and contacted Wattbike.
I asked to return it as I wanted to buy the new model and, to my surprise, the person I spoke to was happy to let me keep on using my current bike, while the new one arrives. I only had to pay the difference+delivery charge. Pretty cool stuff!
I am quite excited as the Atom v2 very much looks like a consumer version of the Atom X without an integrated screen, which is great.
Nope, had to pay the £300 difference+60 for the delivery. I thought that’s fair as I also get to keep and use my bike until the delivery of the new one.
Some interesting nuggets continue to emerge about the Next Generation Atom … I suspect more visuals and details will become available closer to product delivery date. What I have seen so far:
(as mentioned in the video shared above) Next Gen will have reworked shifters to give feedback when changing gears
Mention that Electromagnetic resistance system allows for the potential of ‘road feel’ simulation.
The contact points, including aero extensions refers to the new Wattbike Atom compared to the Wattbike Pro, not Wattbike Atom to next gen.
It would be great to have satellite shifters on the aero extensions, but don’t think that is coming.
I have managed to get permission to replace my current one with the new version, which is exciting!
Hi, im not at liberty to share someone else personnel details. I know he reads the Atom owners facebook page you could try in there, but I cant guarantee he will reply.
Yes, having read it again, I agree it is more likely just referring to the shifters (rather than additional satellite shifters) … shame! … I’m just digging to find all the possible little things out about the new model.
… My Next Gen is already ordered so I’m just interested to see what improvements are being added to the new model.
… One question I see cropping up is “Is the Next Generation Atom any quieter than the 1st Gen?”, I haven’t seen Wattbike directly respond to this yet, but I suspect it won’t be as the appear to be using the same chain style drivetrain mechanism. I have also seen a Instagram story from DC Rainmaker who was riding the Atom X, and this sounded very similar to the current Atom (certainly not quiet like the Kickr bike).
Device is around 16 months old, but I’ve been the owner for about 4 months. Still have balance of the warranty though.
Clocked up around 100 hours in the last 4 months, so been using it pretty regularly in that time though. Much more than my new car
So for me it won’t be a swap, I’ll need to buy the new one, wait until close to delivery and then sell mine to someone.
Ive tried wattbike and they are giving pretty shitty customer service at present. Ive had mine about 10 weeks and they have knocked me back for a upgrade path.
There was no mention of new ‘home’ level devices on the horizon when I spoke to them when purchasing so its not great from then.
I was always a fairly big wattbike advocate previously as ive used the pro bikes for about 4 or 5 years but the way this has been handled doesn’t sit right with me,.
