NEW ENVE SES Wheels launched!

Nice! :+1:
What sizes/models are those, 6.7s and 2.3s?

Yes, you’re correct. if you enlarge the first two pics, you can see the markings on the top right

Do you have already some first ride impressions?

Sorry. I replied on @Aeroiseverything’s post.

Yeah, sorry, my bad.

@Aeroiseverything
How are the wheels? Do you have some first ride impressions? How are the deeper wheels when it comes to stability in the wind?

I am not sure I understand the question about size. Size of what?
I have not set up the 2.3s yet, but will try to ride the sh.t of them in Tenerife in 2 weeks time.
The 6.7 are super nice to ride, fast, light, and comfy (wide internal). The biggest issue I‘ve had so far is installing, and especially uninstalling tires. I couldn’t remove the Specialized RapidAir without destroying them. Fun!
2.3s are hopefully less of a handful there.
All taped up:

Ugh, not nice to hear that!

How are they with ENVEs own tires?

Are they stable in cross winds?

Never tried ENVE‘s tires.
The 60 front is pretty good in crosswinds, the 51 from the 4.5 is amazing though.

Having done a bit of a dive into wheels for a new bike build, my issue with the ENVEs is that the price in GBP here in the UK is crazy compared to the price in USD. The 45s are £3,300 here, although I did see a discount to £2,800 (Merlin if anyone is interested). I have just jumped into a set of new Cadex 50 Ultras which were £2,650 and have just become available last few days. . I know there isn’t a lot of difference between 2,800 and 2,650 but I didn’t really want to spend more than 2,500 and I really liked the spec of the Cadex wheels against the ENVEs, ZIPP, etc in terms of bang for buck.

Hi Lars,

I see from your post that you rode the new 4.5 and 6.7

How would you compare them ? I ordered the 6.7 but after seeing the review on Intheknowofcycling i am debating if i should go with the 4.5 or keep my order with the 6.7

Did you feel the 6.7 sluggish or harder to get to speed ? How about climbing/rollers ?

I am currently running the Black Inc Sixty on my Factor Ostro Vam which are 56mm deep and 1587g, 21mm internal, 30mm external. I recently ordered the new 6.7 thinking i would gain a bit more aero, less weight (maybe little better climbing) and more compliance (23mm internal and hookless so about 10 psi less than current setup). I am doing a lot of 19-23 mph solo rides and i live in mostly flat terrain with some short climbs. I am using 28c GP5000 S TR, 86 kg, 340 FTP.

Thanks for your help !

I had the same issues with the Specialized RapidAirs when I tried to get them off my Enve Foundation 65s. They were great tried until I had to get them off. I could not break the bead and had to cut them off. Conti GP 5000 S TRs are much easier to get off.

If it’s the same as I’ve experienced you need a flat head and push the bead of the tire to towards the center of the rim. It helped to use a mini screw driver used for jewelry to break the bead then push it to the center with a regular driver.

Certainly no need to cut the tire…

I don’t really see how that helps me to get leverage on the tire. A small screwdriver isn’t really the best thing to push against. You need to post a tutorial! :joy:

I use metal tire levers….they are usually thin enough to get in between the tire and rim to break the seal.

I have used up 2 hours, the skin on my thumbs and tried with every tire lever, and other trick I could figure out. I’m not saying it’s not possible, just that I tried a lot tricks, and that thing did not move.

Seconded that a review comparison between these two would be great!

Very similar. The biggest distinction is probably, that the 4.5 is build wider (both internally and externally). It has a perfect interface with 28s, and probably works well with 30s still. So, probably more all round/ long ride etc.
The 6.7 is narrower, and therefore more purpose build to be a fast road wheel, for relatively narrow tires (26s are perfect, 28s seem to work pretty well).

The difference in rim weight is only approx 30 grams or so per wheel, the difference for the full wheel is sub 50g for the set. I doubt anyone could feel a difference in accelerating the weight alone. Just to show how absurdly low a 30g difference is, the stickers on the 6.7 weigh 32g. Remove them and they are as light as a 4.5…
In my case, the 6.7 are build with custom hubs, so they are actually some 75g lighter than my 4.5 (with stock hubs). So if anything they climb better.
6.7 is my racing wheel set, 4.5 is my everyday one.

The 6.7 are likely minimally faster than your current wheels. If your go to tire however is a 28c STR, I‘d probably go 4.5. We are talking of margins here. Both are light, great in cross winds, aero, and wide internally. The speed gain of the 6.7 is negligible at 20mph:

However, I‘d guess the 4.5 perform at least as well as the 6.7 with a 28c S TR, but then they are lighter, even more complaint and even easier to handle.
You can‘t go wrong either way though.

Thanks for that! Do you have some IRL measurements of 25/28c tyres on these rims?

On a 4.5:
STR 30c are around 32mm wide
S-Works Turbo 2BR 28c are around 29mm wide

On a 6.7:
S-Works 2Bliss 2022 26c are around 27mm wide
STR 28c are just over 28mm wide.
