Let's see your Titanium builds!

I love this!

I’m building up a 105 Di2 bike now (with Ultegra shifters - needed satellite buttons because I climb on the tops)

I think the discreet dark grey “Shimano 105” livery on black is really elegant and understated. Looks better than the Ultegra grey or loud white Dura Ace logos IMO.

There’s an 11-36 HG-710 cassette you might want to try on your gravel-ish wheels

Thanks bro! I do love this bike, it’s pretty much stock but amazing value. I’d rode a Canyon Grail with hover bar set up for a few years so it’s nice now to have the option of changing the stem/bar reach
The shifting is faultless with the 105 too, again amazing value

Ha, thanks. The first real ride today went better than I might have expected. 95 miles racing with mega climbs, fast descents & corners along with a wide variety of hero gravel to river rock with some nast washboards.

Blown away with feel of the bike, and the geo gave me confidence to rally even loose corners like i used to on the Boone. To say i am happy with this after many, many hours of research is an understatement. Pretty much love at first ride.

I will try to get some legit glamor shots up soon, now that it’s done.

Yeah that’s a proper break in ride!! Glad you’re loving it — the hints you’ve dropped suggest there was a lot of work that went into it :joy:

@mcneese.chad That is a sweet looking bike! I like that you put the RedShift stem on it. What is the max tire width it can clear? Also, was there an option for dropped seat stays? Honestly I’m not sure I’ve seen any Ti bikes with dropped seat stays … but I really like that look. Just curiosity at this point. Thanks!

Thanks! I have had a Redshift stem since they debuted on Kickstarter and will likely always run one. It just plain works with no fluff or issues.

700 x 47 max at the fork, 45 max in the frame.

No options for dropped stays from this brand at least. I may have seen some with those when I searched, bit not sure on that.

ETA: quick search shows Ribble offers a mild drop stay version on their gravel bikes.

Another PlanetX, this time a rim braked spitfire, I’d just plunged into the trough as the temperatures were around 40C

OP’s bike, updated!

10 years old but given a new level of comfort with a new fork that enables 28c tyres!

It’s a custom Burls (UK design, made in Russia) which I specced with good clearance for the rear tyre but got encumbered with a narrow (23c) capacity Easton fork originally. The non-tapered steerer made fork choice tricky but I discovered that Columbus makes a lovely straight steerer fork with up to 30c clearance, for just over £200 and weighing only 350g uncut - result!

It also got a new 105 gruppo (from Wiggle at a bargain £299!!) but despite this, it’s still coming in at under 8kg due to some lightweight bits, including seatpost, saddle and stem. I may complete the theme of lightweight finishing kit and extra-comfort with a carbon bar. The wheels are handbuilt 24/24 with Kinlin XR22T rims and CX Rays.

I’ve stayed with the simplicity of clinchers over tubeless and I’m finding the comfort of going to 28/28c from 23/25c a noticeable improvement on my rough Scottish back roads.

Updated / reverted my Paramount Ti to the custom-painted Wound Up fork I had for it….required switching back to a threaded headset and quill stem, but everything is period-correct now. Found an old TTT Pro Chrome stem, which was the original spec on the bikes back from ‘98.

Brought it down to our FL office and will keep it here so I don’t have to drag a bike here everytime I visit……but unfortunately, I forgot to pack shorts for this trip, so my next ride on it will have to wait.

And before anyone slams me for that HB configuration, I’ll say two things….

  • The HB’s turned slightly to the left when I took the pic, so it looks worse than it is
  • As noted, these are all period-correct parts. In order to get the HB to shifter transition that I like, I have to rotate the bars up enough that they look like anti-aircraft guns.

Even back in the day, I got grief for running my bars rotated up like that, but I was just ahead of my time. I really wish I had pushed some OE suppliers to make me some bars like I wanted….

Whiteface toll road? Classic climb!

Update… I’ve had the Major just over 2yrs now & love it more than when I first got it!! Just ‘upgraded’ with some cheap carbon wheels, new rotors, cassette, chain etc… Still looks beautiful
