In general, I find wider easier. But specific tires and specific rim combos can still be cumbersome. Maybe it is because mtb tires have been tubeless for so long, that tolerances are that much better as they are the easiest for me. Just set up a new Specialized mtb tire on a Roval (Specialized) rim yesterday completely dry. Just put on the tire and pumped it up with a regular floor pump, and held pressure overnight with zero sealant.
