Yes, but I am “smart” enough to start with the cheapest solution first and then work my way up.
Stories like this make me realise how amazingly fortunate I am that my place of work invested in facilities to encourage riding into work.
If i didnt have a changing room with shower facilities and a room to dry clothes I’m not sure i’d bother riding in. In fact - since my hobby started with me just riding into work I probably wouldnt have taken up riding at all.
Is there any chance you could get your place of work to provide something? Do many other people ride in?
I used to commute. I worked in a large office building that had a (disgusting) shower and lockers in the sub-basement. I’m not even sure what for since I was the only one I ever saw go into or out of it. It definitely felt like the opening scene from a cheesy horror movie. I was lucky to have learned how to take a 60 second shower in boot camp, but it never felt safe. I always envied my colleagues in Europe who had such wonderful tax, street, and office infrastructure aimed to promote ride to work programs.
Close to my work is a gym that is associated to my work place (I work at uni). The membership fees are cheap (40 €/month), so I might do that. However, that’d add 45 minutes or so to my morning routine (stow my bike in my office, take out gym bag, walk over, take a shower, get dressed, walk over again …).
I have gotten very good at doing a bathroom wash up. We don’t have a shower in our office, but I like to tide at lunch, so I’ll just freshen up in the bathroom. A quick splash and then some baby wipes and I am good to go.
It helps that I am bald so it is easy to wash my head.
Today is day 3 of the sushi technique. So far it has worked out very well. The chamois is a tad damp, but totally fine for a short 40-minute ride. Washing my clothes did make an improvement (at least according to my nose)!
I didn’t think this thread would get that much attention!
