I think that because the BRR tests are different for road and gravel and mtb, they can’t be accurately compared between categories.
Ah that’s fair, did not think of that!
How did you get that data? And is that RR based on road conditions? I just started using these tires and would love to know the RR at specific pressures! Namely 35,36,37,38,39,40 psi.
On second look, they address this:
1.3 Comparing Categories
We follow the same protocols for all the tests, making comparing tires from different categories easy. The only exception is the air pressures we use for the tests, as bigger tires and off-road tires are generally used at lower air pressures.
They use same protocol, I guess you can’t compare across categories using the site because of tire pressure, which makes sense.
Bicycle Rolling Resistance site, here’s the pages for Terraspeed 35 and 40mm:
You’ll have to pay to get access to some of the data, but it is a very nominal yearly fee.
I borrowed the gravel bike for BWR. Will literally be a one and done so would never use the site after this week.
Thanks for the info. That’s the pressure I started with but being 15 kg lighter than you I dropped 0,2 bar since. Still trying to figure out the ideal values for the mixed terrain I ride here.
I’m still figuring out what i want to run for Sea Otter Gravel (La Gravilla) Looks like the course is going to change, but there’s enough sand, hard pack sand, soft (muddy) soil, and rutted dirt to warrant a WTB Nano or Maxxis Rambler. The hard parts are going to be two 2 mile long descents that are class 2 gravel with LOTS of loose gravel over hard, so riding on marbles at speed with multiple changes in direction.
Just gonna put in another plug for the Goodyear Connecter Ultimate…still the best all-round gravel tire I have found.
I use it on everything from kity-litter hard pack to the varied rocky terrain of Iceland and I have never found it lacking.
Edit: this was supposed to be Cory’s sandy road pic.
This is a gravel tire thread. Those rocks are too small to be considered gravel.
You’re right, that’s a dirt B-Road/MMR. They are usually rutted and littered with all sorts of furniture(sometimes literally!)
look up the word ‘Gravel’ and you’ll find out that gravel is more of a spectrum than a clear cut definition. It’s like with MTBs - there are Hardtails and Downhills and everything in between. Same goes for Gravelbikes and tyres. Don’t know why you were quoting me while replying to @Cory.Rood? I ride the same tyres as he does on similar surfaces and rougher stuff and as long as you don’t encounter muddy sections you’re fine with slicks in my experience. YMMV of course.
I was clearly kidding
Edit: I see what’s going on… I was replying to Cory’s sandy road pic. For some reason the forum software picked up your quote.
To be fair, we can’t tell whether or not @jfranci3 has a waxed mustache from the other side of a monitor. Turns out he doesn’t (probably)!
I weight 180 and run my 43 GK SK’s at like 32ish PSI. And that’s on 21 ID wheels w/o inserts, I’d definitely be looking at mid twenties or so if I was in that situation.
I figured out what went wrong… the forum didn’t pull the sandy road pic into my post, but pulled some misc quote from qwertzuiop for some reason. I hadn’t realized it.
