Bah! I won’t be able to make it tomorrow. Be sure to let us know if there is anything new and interesting for this year! Enjoy
Ooof! That was a tough ride.
The numbers don’t really tell the tale of how hard that was. The “new” sections through Lusardi are a lot more technical than on BWRs in the last 5 or so years and will definitely cause some people trouble if they turn up on a road bike with 30s. The switchbacks up the river valley always cause me issues.
I’d imagine that will be the majority of the course once the Ramona/Black Canyon section is tacked on to the end of Hodges
Thanks for the report! I was actually planning on running a wider slick, but maybe I’ll go with something with some side knobs…
Good to know! How does it compare to the truck trail from 2022 ago, because that was savage. Though it was mostly the descent.
I also understand they’ve taken out Raptor Ridge and Bandy reverse, but recon route seems to have both reversed.
I’m curious what they’ll do to Ramona - I suspect it’ll serve as a turnaround point. It got some Hutchinson Caracal 40mm but it makes me wonder if I need more knobs …
Thanks! Looks like the new start/finish has some burly sections.
Could you share the route link please?

There have been two recon ride weekends, the up coming event will resemble these routes and cover a lot of the same ground. Rumor has it, there are two loops around the Lusardi area. Recce Breake | 77.3 mi Cycling Route on Strava

Thank you. Yeah, I can’t get down there on Saturdays. Kiddo has karate. Wife has yoga. I ride later. Thanks so much for this!
Official routes were just emailed, waffle: Ride with GPS | Bike Route Planner and Cycling Navigation App
Distance-wise, a bit shorter and less elevation than previous years. Let’s see about difficulty, the black mountain area does not look trivial! But no raptor ridge climb, that 6-7m was tough.
Yeah, Raptor Ridge is a rough go. Looks like a good time !
That’s a gnarly little hill back up to Camino del Sur after the switchbacks on the Santa Fe trail. I never enjoy doing that
Haven’t done that area at all - the one just before you pop out onto the road?
Yeah, it’s no Double Peak but you’ll definitely feel it after 100+ miles
Those switchbacks will be gnarly on the way back and the final kicker is no joke. Looking forward to pain.
Shreddin’! Keep the pics coming.

A few more surveillance pics from todays ride. A lot of grooming has been done on the trails through Lusardi on the way back. It’s so much smoother and safer on tue single track that was usually studded with rocks and a little rutted.
That’s not bad news! Is that water crossing…crossable?
@daness40 I’d say it’s most likely rideable with some momentum. I didn’t walk right up to it but it’s probably a foot to 18" deep. Last time I walked across the rocks and ended up slipping in but not falling. This time I turned around and took another hike a bike section to bypass the water crossing. Come event day, if I’m feeling motivated, I may go for it and plow though.
I don’t know if anybody has tried crossing it.
