My original response above covers this, too. I mentioned VO2 initially, but you may see workouts with levels you weren’t expecting across the board, from Anaerobic down to Endurance.
We still recommend you give those workouts a shot and report back if you have any issues.
Looking back at your recent training history, I can see that you pretty regularly exceed the prescribed number of hours in your plan, often nearing or exceeding 10 hours in a week. This is likely why we’re saying that you could increase your volume to 10 hours a week. From a data standpoint, it appears that you can handle it.
There’s no pressure to make those changes if you don’t want to, though..
First V02 max workout since the first week in October, with major injury recovery in the first 6 weeks of the year.
Original 1.0 workout changed to Bird, PL 5.5 (4.5 increase), just after an AIFTP increase. Gave it a try–rated very hard, but finished it–although not focusing on it, even hit target power until the last few intervals.
Nice validation (at least for one day) of the modeling!
I had a similar jump last night and wasn’t sure if it was a bug or real or if progression levels really aren’t meant to be relied upon. I did Orsiera, which was scheduled as part of my current plan, and I had a jump in the Anaerobic progression from 3.5 to 9.5. I responded to the survey that the workout was Hard. Aftewards it recommended an FTP increase (which it specifically said was not AI driven), but given how I felt during the longer inverals I declined it. While it’s nice to see a jump in the progression level, it’s shaken my confidence in it as a reliable indicator.
I feel like you’re thinking about this incorrectly. Your current PL is only a measure of what you have done. The system analyzed your previous workouts and thought that you could do much better. You completed the workout. 2 min 10 seconds at 130% should feel super hard.
I’m a bit confused. You completed a 9.5 anaerobic workout and “only” rated it hard and now you are not confident in the AI’s ability to assign appropriate workouts?
As @slipdog pretty much already said, I think you are wrong to be less confident in the system (and I think you should have accepted the FTP increase).
The system thought you could handle Orsiera. You did handle it, by completing it (well done!). Morever, you told the system it was only Hard. Not Very Hard and not Maximum Effort. Just Hard.
To then reject the FTP increase seems to send confusing signals back to TR.
I’m fine for it adjusting workouts (and always take the recommendations) but an adjustment in FTP I feel would be a little tough to take when it comes to the other progression levels. I am relatively stronger for shorter efforts than I am for longer ones. Increasing FTP would have the impact of increasing the Tempo - VO2Max sessions as well, which I will admit I would likely struggle with.
I guess I have a general misunderstanding in what the PL actually means. I was thinking of it more like your level of training for each zone whereas it is probably more of a reflection of the hardest Workout Level completed for each zone. Based on that, I’m not surprised at the jump in PL.
Also, I always take the AI driven FTP adjustments, but with it explicitly stating that this adjustment wasn’t AI driven I didn’t really know how to interpret it. Did it come from some recent outdoor rides or from this one workout only? If it’s just from the one anaerobic workout then I would tend to not beleive it given my power profile.
It was a 2.7% increase. I probably should have let it give it to me and dealth with it now that I look at my training plan more closely. Everything right now is either Endurance or Anaerobic so I probably could have dealth with it. I’m not sure how the system would react if I just change it manually vs waiting for the next AI update though.
