Chinese cars are fine if you are happy to share all your data with Chinese companies. I would never get one. Riding a Chinese bike does not have the same type of risks.
With electronics everywhere, you never know. X-labs has embedded “find my” tracking tech into the crank/PM. I can’t speak to the security of that system, but Apple would certainly have the ability to track your every move. From my perspective, it’s a very nice feature, but I could see it turning off the people who worry a lot about privacy and tracking.
Another bike to put on everyone’s radar would be the new Tavelo Grow which honesty looks like it ticks all boxes for a modern and aero gravel race bike. The new integrated handlebar offered by Tavelo is also very nice. The whole package for 1,880 USD is very competitive too. I was looking at the Winspace G3 but I think I prefer the Tavelo as it looks like a more complete package plus the purple colorway is just so nice .
They are on my radar too but still hesitant about Chinese brands, less so with Winspace at this point. I don’t know much about Tavelo though. Otherwise, those two check pretty much every box for me.
I’d say Tavelo is not one of those obscure Chinese bike and their road bike have been well reviewed over the year so I believe they are on par with most western bike brand when it comes to quality. Support is another matter as there’s no North American dealer like Winspace now has but I think their customer support is pretty good from what I’ve read. I suppose the downside is having to bring your frameset to you local bike shop for final assembly and the associated cost (and some lbs might not even want to work on these brands - shame on them if you ask me though).
The cones bike space has expanded like crazy. XLab say they want to disrupt the American bike market and they are correct about the insane pricing that’s going on in the marketplace. These large Chinese brands make bikes for other international brands - anyone know a source for these crossovers? Like Quick Pro/Merida made on the same line??
Cars from China are essentially banned for sale in the US. Chinese software restrictions for 2027 and beyond and Chinese made hardware in 2029 and beyond. Or something like that. Not to mention that they would come with a 100% tariff so hard to justify the cost if you are a consumer.
All the reports are that the newer cars (EV specifically) are very, very good. BYD, Xiaomi, and sub brands of Geely (owner of Volvo) are a few.
Back on topic - new Felt gravel official unveiling tomorrow.
It’s been years since I looked at how that network operates, but that surprises me. I used to work in an industry that used all kinds of covert tracking technologies and Apple was a big partner/customer of ours. The “find me” network was something we really wanted to leverage, but they were not willing to sell that data. But my understanding was that it wasn’t a technology limitation, just that selling that data would face too much scrutiny when they are already under the public microscope.
Well shit. At a quick glance this look sick. Exactly what I am looking to upgrade to coming from the Crux. Spesh might have lost another customer by delaying their Crux so long
