Best Racing Gravel Bike 2025

Curious what bike did you buy? And why?

If the leaked Checkout turns out to be real, it could be interesting. It basically looks like a drop bar XC bike.

Anyone seen any more detailed reviews of the Able 2.0? Especially tire clearance and how legit the 2.2+ clearance is?

I’m tempted on a frame-only purchase - have pretty much everything else so the sting wouldn’t be that bad once I sold the current one to cover…

Have not ridden one or seen any detailed reviews beyond the initial release stuff. But I’ve seen a bunch of them close up at Rule of 3 and Unbound running 2.2 race kings. Proper clearance like you’d expect on an off road bike.

Spot Rallye - good choice if you need something biased towards rougher courses - good tire clearance, UDH, seatpost size that works with many droppers, etc. I also happen to have an XL top spec build for sale as I’m leaning towards building up a XC bike instead.

Are there Seka buyers?

Only social media characters seem to be riding them, and I’m assuming they got them for free.

Pricing is high for a direct to consumer frame with no support.

Really interested in this one - but they are only claiming 52mm in the rear. I most likely won’t buy it unless it can fit a 2.25 'Burt on a reasonably wide rim.

Pros:

  • Tire clearance
  • Aero
  • Looks great
  • 750ml fidlock aero bottles(!)
  • DT storage
  • About 1kg frame weight I think they claimed in one of the vids
  • 2x compatible

Cons:

  • Narrowest barstem is 380mm
  • Potentially short front center
  • Looks like it won’t take a big 1x chainring.

Are there any options that support 2x drivetrain and properly fit a 2.25? I would think those would be mutually exclusive, but not sure.

I’m fine with 1x if it can fit a bigger chainring.

I think you’re right such a frame doesn’t exist, but it just comes down to longer chainstays I think.

Yes. 2025 Giant Revolt tire clearance - #6 by Bnar

I so wish Giant would release a UDH revolt. It’s a great frame, light, round seat post, fender mounts, in frame storage, 1x or 2x compatible. But no way I’m buying a non-UDH frame at this point. Surely this update has to be imminent.

I was talking about proper tire clearance, not whether you can fit the tire in the frame under perfect conditions. A revolt doesn’t support 2.25’s in 1x or 2x.

AFAIK no current front derailleur is compatibile with 2.25 using the specified chainline. You’d need something like Boost hub spacing to make it work, I think. Boost gravel bikes and the attendant backlash to the new standard seem inevitable….

Random but any IG users here? Is Enve having a sales blitz or is it the anniversary of the MOG or something. Literally every Enve rider is posting about their MOG and how great it is. Are they trying to cover the fact they don’t have a MTB during Leadville week

New wheels today for the Lauf, went with Zipp 303 Xplr SW’s and mounted up some dub 2.4’s out of curiosity whether they would fit. Lots of room in the front, but pretty tight in the rear. Similar to a Mog in the rear running a 2.2. Fine for dry conditions, but wouldn’t run this setup in the mud. And I can’t actually think of any races I’d run something bigger than a ~2.2 anyway, but cool to see they fit if the need arises. I guess maybe Big Sugar, but that last pavement stretch is a bit of a grind on big tires.

Pretty decent clearance everywhere except the chainstays (tight, but clears the little injection hairs).

Love that bike man, nice. I just put some Thunder Burt 2.25’s on my Revolt and can’t wait to race it now that I just saw John tested that tire and got almost the same results as the 2.1 TB. I had race king 2.2’s on, but the tanwall ones so this should be a nice upgrade.

on the topic of Lauf - do you know what this guy is alluding to in this video? seems like there is a known issue with the Siegla? And his customer experience was not good.

Crazy that 2.4s basically fit - but to your point I don’t really think there is ever a gravel race that requires that thick of a tire. Probably would just opt for the MTB at that point.

Curious what you think of the XPLR wheels too!

Yep, he’s talking about speed wobble. Some people have experienced speed wobbles with the bike. It’s not an issue unique to Lauf (I had a Tarmac that would speed wobble at times). Motorcycles do it also. It happens when you get a self-perpetuating oscillation/frequency and it’s dependent on weight distribution, wheels/tires used, tire pressure, weight on the fork (ie bikepacking), bar choice, road surface, headset tension, etc.. I know of lots of folks who have dealt with it, but none of them ride a lauf. I do have a couple buddies on Laufs and neither has dealt with it and I’ve never experienced it on my Siegla in thousands of miles of riding/racing on a variety of surfaces, tire choice, and speeds. When it happened on my Tarmac, it would stop if I squeezed the top tube with my knees, that’s a pretty common way to stop it. I don’t doubt the people who have experienced it with a Lauf, it’s a thing. Whether it’s more common on a Lauf or not, I have no idea, but I guess the suspension fork might make it more likely. Lauf does offer a ā€œhoneyā€ bearing that dampens the headset a bit (not a unique part to Lauf), but I don’t have that on my bike.

I don’t know who that guy is, but I don’t doubt he ran into the issue. Whether it was as bad as he made it out to be or whether he was smart/thorough about finding a solution, I have no idea. His negative feedback on Lauf customer service surprises me though. I know the main US guy who helps support Lauf in the states and he is next level awesome (both as a person and as a technical resource). I’ve met a lot of people who know him as well and I’ve never heard anything but positive stuff. I assume he would have been involved with this guy’s issue, so that part surprises me. He’s been my primary point of contact with Lauf, so maybe there are others that aren’t so good, but I can’t say. I don’t want to disparage the dude on youtube, but I also don’t know him and I’m inclined to think there is more to the story that what he’s sharing (there always is). The guys says he’s an open book and then doesn’t even mention the issue, that part seemed weird to me but who knows.

Funny that you would mention MTB. I ran my MTB last year at Big Sugar (a race where I’d consider the 2.4’s). There is a bunch of heavy gravel and I think volume/suspension is free speed on most of that course. And I almost hate to mention it, but I was thinking about what it would be like to race leadville on my Seigla when I was there this year. I’ve always said I’d never even consider Leadville on a hardtail MTB, but if I ever did consider it without full suspension, I’d probably do the Seigla before doing a hard tail MTB. I don’t think either of them would be as fast as my FS Epic, but it would be an interesting challenge. I actually think a Seigla with 2.4’s would be a decent bike for that course. And the wide BB spacing allows me to swap in my MTB crank/PM with a 32 ring to get the required gearing.

Haven’t even ridden them outside yet (still nursing an injury from Leadville week). My only initial impressions are that tire mounting is very tight and they slightly reduce sidewall clearance to the frame compared to what I’ve been running (303’s with 25 internal). The bike does have a nice ā€œmonsterā€ vibe with the MTB tires and thick/tall wheels, makes me want to find some chunk to roll over at high speed.

I’m ā€œsoftā€ looking for a gravel bike, I have a SL7 road bike and a Trek Top Fuel 9.8 GX AXS.

It won’t be for racing, and I’m Yorkshire, UK so plenty of trails, gravel and everything in between around. I’d like something aimed more at comfort than race speed, some form of Downtube Port for storing ā€œstuffā€, 1X at the front and some sort of suspension.

I was at the British Gravel champs and really like the look of the Pinarello Grivel (never owned a Pinarello). I also saw the new Diverge which seems to tick all the boxes.

I’m coming back from some heart surgery so realistically won’t be riding outside until March/April so am thinking of a short, short list then see if any bargains turn up.

any thoughts on the 2 bikes above? Any others I should consider? Thinking about £4k list price as a max and hopefully some nice discount at some point.
