Anyone using a Whoop?

I didn’t find v4 HR precission any better than v3 in cycling when I wear it on the wirst…
yesterday had 3.5hrs ride and garmin gave me 147 avg HR and whoop 127…

Mine has to catch up maybe once a month. Usually when it doest this it needs to catch up for the whole night and it takes 10-15 min

Was for me when I got my 4.0. It improved over time and with some firmware updates. Now it’s just a matter of charging taking longer because it’s inductive instead of contact points.

If/When Garmin comes out with the Fenix 7 I’ll have to give it a serious look. I really like having the HRV/RHR/Respiratory rate. I think the Garmin body battery is similar, maybe better as it’s more real time.
Whoop is more unobtrusive, but also more expensive in the long run. I think it’s more of a question of “does this work for ME”, vs. DC Rainmaker or any other reviewer’s opinions. For the time being it is working for me, but at the current price it’s a luxury more than a necessity.

Try closing out the app and restarting it.

Have you tried a bicep band? I get much better/consistent reads there than on the wrist (eg, 133 average HR on Whoop bicep vs. 135 average HR on Garmin chest strap for a century…quite possible that the difference is from pausing the Garmin while taking pee breaks).

The syncing is faster already but yes on the slow charging for sure.

I’m still on the fence with the device as a whole. It’s interesting data and I like the app, but not sure it’s worth the monthly fee. Doubt it’ll ever provide me with anything that is actually actionable. I’ve been training for 20+ years and I don’t think it’s that hard to tell when I’m tired and need a day off or if I slept like crap and I should dial down my workout. :man_shrugging:

I’ve also gotten a lot of dropouts when using it as an HRM with Zwift. Didn’t get any with my TR workout today so maybe that’s just a Zwift thing.

Going to use my Tickr and Whoop together next just to see if there is a difference in HR.

Ive just received my whoop 4.0 and it will not connect the heart rate to my garmin edge 530
Ive tried everything including calling talking to garmin who could not figure it out either.

It sees that whoop is there but the dial on top just spins forever

Anyone else have an issue like this?

this app kicks ass - i know this is a whoop thread but Apple watch users can get something very similar in the Athlytic app

Ultimately bought one for the $30 monthly payment tier. I got a promotional email giving me the first month free so I figured I would take the plunge and decide later if I want to switch to a prepaid plan. Will only pay for the cost of shipping when the thing ships (which is estimated now at 6+ weeks, better than I expected).

I read your review and thought they were all good points including the concerns on recovery scores/sleep tracking I figured. But I figured I can make a decision within 30 days of receiving it. Looking forward to getting it!

Received my 4.0 today. Did an O/U workout on the trainer. N=1 sample size, but HR was MUCH more accurate (consistent with my polar chest strap). I’ve used Whoop for about a year and like the sleep/recovery tracking, but was always annoyed at the erratic HR tracking during exercise. Initial impression is that 4.0 is quite a bit better.

As somebody who has never had issues with HR tracking with Whoop, whereas ALL cheat straps I’ve ever tried were flakey, I wonder what makes the difference for us. Is it anatomy? Is it the skin? Is there any research that covers any of this out there?

You’re clearly an alien. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

no idea…but a friend gave me his 3.0 with the free 2 month trial when his 4.0 arrived, and within 24 hours of use it was telling me my few mins stood at the kitchen worktop preparing dinner was a tougher workout than my 2 hour tempo ride earlier that day! Had a couple of issues since and dont trust the HR/activity data at all.

My 3.0 is pretty accurate on the bike. But if i go on an easy walk, it will have my HR in upper zn 3. If i put it on my bicept, it works fine. I rarely go on walks or hikes, so no biggie,

Is it possible that the strap is not sitting tight enough on your wrist? When you’re on the bike, you’re not moving your arms quite as much as when you’re walking. So if it’s not tight enough, I can see how the readings might become erratic when walking.

No, its plenty tight. The walking issue is a known problem according to whoop technical support. It may not happen to everyone, but it happens to a lot of people. Hoping 4.0 solves it for me.

My 4 has been better on hr tracking. From my observation the first 4.0 firmware upgrade fixed the phantom drops that a few of us reported.

HR tracking while better - is really because it’s mostly optical based and on the wrist.

I notice if I start an effort hands in the drops the whoop won’t raise HR in line. If I move hands to the tops it will go up quickly. Thus the position of my wrist (and blood flow) impacts its accuracy- compared the the stable & electrical impedance based chesty…it seems off comparatively.

Higher on the wrist. Tighter. And less ‘bent’ wrists keep it closest to the strap. But there is lag both ways on the whoop. I have found the 4.0 to be closer at reading max hr vs the chest strap than the 3.0. It’s maybe 2-3 beats off vs 5-10.

Anyone use the armband ?

Side note: had battery pod issues. Whoop sent a new one in a week.

I bought the biceps band before I gave up on whoop. Lots of people swear by it, but I found it extremely uncomfortable for just one workout. I can’t imagine wearing it 24x7.

Have been using the 4.0 a couple weeks now. Liking the sleep stuff and various metrics. Not feeling great about it as an HRM though. Have not seen any issues when pairing it up to TR, but anytime I pair it up to Zwift I get tons of dropouts. Check out these last two rides. Not pretty.

Wow, thats bad. I havent had an issue like that with my 3.0

Any chance that’s due to multiple devices fighting over the signal?
