Am I ready for a CRIT?

Go for it. Maybe you get dropped and then again maybe you do great or simply hang in there. Only way to begin is to start racing, assess your fitness and where you are in the group and then adjust training to improve.

Depends on the race. Wide open course might let you finish. Our local event here flags you off once you’re dropped from the main group and DNFs. My opinion about if you’re ready? Only one way to find out. Get out there.

Wolvering Sports Club has some fast group rides. If you’re looking for a fast group ride, check out the “Crosswinds” ride too with the Cadieux Bicycle Club:

Sounds like someone else is in CT! :smirk:

There has been 2 Wednesday night Crits at Waterford so far this spring/summer. In each B race (Cat 4/5) there has been a crash. I wasn’t at the first race, but was in the race this week when the crash occurred. It happened behind me, so I didn’t see it unfold. I heard the rider lost control in the last corner then tried to move over in traffic. He ended up getting hauled away in an ambulance.

Yes, I agree this is a non-technical course for Crits, and a good place for “beginner” Crit racers to start. With that being said, for your safety and the safety of other racers, I would encourage you to ride with groups, get comfortable in pacelines, cornering near other riders, learning not to half wheel, etc before you race your first Crit.
