Buy them all, build them up how you want and go do a test day. Then sell the slower ones and keep the fastest.
Unrealistic, impractical and financially irresponsible.
I’d do it. ![]()
I have an SL7, Foil RC and a Factor v1. I like them all but if I had to keep one it would be the Foil.
Something to consider, there is value in being able to pick all the components with the Factor. You could potentially be saving a ton of money depending on your fit.
It does seem that all these bikes are pretty good, but:
If optimizing for weight >>> Buy the Addict RC
If optimizing for aero >>> Buy the Ostro
If want something in the middle>>> Buy the SL8
If optimizing for looks >>> Buy the Ostro
If flexibility of components matter >>> Buy the Ostro.
I’m one of those guys that thinks that if you are dropping 15k on a bike one should not have to compromise on anything….
Narrowing this:
The Ostro at 6.5kg will be near perfection. (Heart)
The SL8 is already close to perfection, but lots of ppl have one and doesn’t excite me as much. (Head)
The TeamMachine R is interesting as well and I can get a 20% discount on the frame ![]()
What’s your plan to get the Ostro down to 6.5?
- Sub 1300g Aero Wheels
- SRM PM, Look carbon cranks, Ti carbon chainrings
- Seile 160g saddle
- If needed, perhaps seat post.
That would knock 500-600 of my build at 7.7.
What color frame are you thinking?
heck, judging by what you’re willing to spend and if you’re not too committed to a paint scheme you might even find out if Factor is willing to do a bare ready-to-paint frame, or at least find out which colorway is their lightest. I haven’t seen it in the world tour for a little bit but I remember teams occasionally having climbing versions of their bikes that had what looked to be a plain matte black finish that was supposed to be less grams than the standard colorful paint job.
The Prisma studio offers a Naked Carbon version, though it’s unclear how much lighter than white, or any of the other colors, that finish would be.
Israel - Premier tech is still riding them…although technically they are not a World Tour team, but they get invites to the major WT races.
White
Just get the Colnago…
I dig it…my biggest concern (besides the $$$$$) is getting the fit right. I’m sure changing HB won’t be cheap and getting the right SP measurement is critical since there is only ~1.5cm of adjustment.
Despite many brands sticking with a single-bike solution (Specialized Tarmac, Pinarello Dogma F), the pendulum of development is now swinging back towards multiple bikes.
“Now we’ve cleared down our covid stock, time to re-introduce our aero bike”
I think it looks sweet from this angle. But the bars…I don’t love as much. But IMO, this is racing, not a fashion contest. So if it’s faster and legal, then run it.
Kinda has the front end of the Cervelo S5 and the back of the Madone. It says 15.7 lbs or 7.12 kg. So easier to get to 6.8……I don’t know why a WT rider would ride a climbing bike anymore. I guess Visma has to bcs S5 is kinda heavy.
Specialized Teams are ok
BMC teams are ok
Factor teams are ok
Canyon teams are ok
Perhaps the move is to wait a bit for all manufacturers to optimize aero and weight.
6.8 kg with pedals and head unit mount out of the box. Then you can get it close to 6 with custom parts.
I’m waiting for the new Aeroad CFR (Alpecin colors) with Dura Ace and DtSwiss 1400 too arrive after 1 january. XS size. I Will do a weighting on the scale when arrived.
When I bought a v1 Ostro the factory said that the Chrome colorway was the lightest. I think white is the heaviest.
Also, my stock Ostro saddle weighs 131g.
Why are you so concerned with weight and then choosing a white colourway? It looks good sure but is definitely heavier than no paint.
