2 hour training sessions for long MTB race - my experience

That’s a good plan as the main climb is long and unrelenting 9 mile gravel climb, that’s followed by a 6 mile stretch of paved climbing on the parkway, 5-10 minutes of hike-a-bike followed by a 20-30 min descent on a technical trail. Oh and there’s 2 significant punchy climbs on that descent, it you get through that with no cramping you’re doing good.

That’s the meat of that race but there’s all the single track before and after that. It’s a really hard race. My advice is to be sure to supplement your gravel racing with some XC type riding on similar terrain. The hike-a-bike sections are what get me. I have cramped every year I’ve attempted it.

I mention this because the race has a reputation for being a “roadie” course and while I do think sustained climbing power is the most important aspect, you’ll need a very well rounded tool kit to enjoy this beast. If you can pre-ride the course I would recommend it. Good luck. I’ll be doing the short course version the day before. :+1:
