I have no idea about the tire but going from “Purgatory” to “Trail Control” is just about the worst name change in history.

trail control sounds like it could be a new name for the ground control, a tire i quite like.
No, the ground control still exists and has been updated with flex lite and grid lite labels like the other xc tyres
Not XC, but I was in a bike shop looking at bikes and notice one Specialized bike had a LAUGHTER tire on the rear. I figured it must be a great tire if it makes you laugh. Turns out the S was hidden by the seat stay.
Thats a Homer Simpson. 100%
I have been using the Wolfpack Race and Cross in 2.4 for the past 3 years. Probably the fastest, best gripping tire I have ridden in my 15 years of XC racing. Light and not expensive. Problem is they are not available in 2.4 right now.
Just following up with this for anyone interested. After the positive results from my own testing, I’ve been using the Mezcals and Barzo combo exclusively and I’m having my best season since moving to cat 1 (3 wins, 1 second, and 1 third). This is on totally different courses and styles of racing from a sandy marathon to flat and mountain XC style course. I’ve also PR’ed every course that I’ve raced at in the past.
I definitely learned the hard way to not obsess over RR data when looking for XC race tires.

Congrats! I’ve heard great things about the Barzo as a front tire.
