I would’ve said no, but I was not convinced of the 29 standard either. It took a while to figure out the geometry but 29ers are awesome going through chunky stuff compared to 26ers. So maybe.
ps: I guess investing on carbon wheels isn’t that great long term after all …
Did a frame swap on my gravel bike to fit big tires and mounted up some ‘2.25’ Thunder Burts. After a few weeks they’re holding at 54mm : /. I guess it checks out as bigger than the 2.1s, but it’s an awfully small difference.
I contacted schwalbe. They said the tires might stretch some more after I have ridden on them - which I have not yet done, as the ground is covered in snow now.
In the meantime, they gave me a 50% discount on a new Nobby Nic, which I ordered directly from schwalbe. The bead-to-bead width on this tire is the same as my current undersized mounted tire - so I have few hopes that this new tire will be wider than 2.25” mounted.
