Where did you workout (ride, run, etc) OUTSIDE today? (2025)

seems like it’s been 6 months since we last saw blue skies and +10°C. So shorts it was and just noodling around to spin winter off the legs…

you’re looking at the bernese alps. left from the pole the three peaks are called Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau(joch). The village below those three mountains is called Grindelwald - where all the tourists go to. If you ever visit Switzerland, I’d skip Grindelwald and go to Zermatt instead. More expensive but so much nicer (imho).

I spent a few days in Wengen in 2011 on a trip with my sister (Italy->Switzerland->Germany). We hiked up to Kleine Scheidegg one day, then down to Lauterbrunnen the next day. I still day dream about being there, and hope to take my family back one day!
I have a bunch of pictures, but these seem the best/most relevant.

Man, how do you follow those amazing photos?

Visiting my daughter at Seattle University. First half all uphill, second half all down. Makes for interesting pacing! A few pics from the campus and surrounding First Hill/Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

Beautiful day, I am glad I took it off. I joined some mates for a ride to the Old Forge cafe in Cranford.

I was more concentrating on the map than efforts. But the power meter reckoned I done over 2000w :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Girona, my home from home (soon to be my home). Not the best weather this week but still got some good mileage in so far.

So cool :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I’m gonna be back there end of March - can’t wait.

Interested to hear how one might make living there a reality given the visa constraints now in place due to Brexit. (And now about to get tougher as Spain removes the golden visa for significant investors as of April this year).

Golden visa wouldn’t have been an option for me anyway (sadly :face_with_tears_of_joy:).

Indeed it is a minefield, there are a few options and we’re not certain which avenue we’ll go down yet. Either my company will transfer me to our Spanish branch (ICT visa), I will go self employed under the digital nomad visa, or my partner will be the digital nomad visa applicant. We both work remotely full time which helps a lot.

Thanks :folded_hands:

The usual Saturday ride today. For some strange reason the 18.6mph average started to fall after the cafe despite the tailwind :sun_with_face:

Another gorgeous one today. Out in the morning with a local cycling group to Yaxley. As we started to part one rider asked me if I wanted to go further and it was too nice not too :sun_with_face:

The morning was mostly Z1 with a bit of VO2max up hills and the afternoon was a bit more steady.

A TrainerRoad recovery ride for me today down to the windy Fens. I think I took it too easy with my lack of circulation and once done it took a bit before my hands warmed up enough.

Deja vue of yesterday’s ride down from Yaxley to Conington via Holme for a couple of recovery laps. It wasn’t half windy, on the way down Holme Road I was 22.9mph for 159w and on the way back in the cooldown I was only 13.2mph for 127w.

I’d missed a couple of sessions thanks to Cyclone Alfred, but it’s passed now, & left a fair bit of flooding, debris, & other forms of destruction around the place, so on Tuesday evening on my way back from helping a friend clean up I checked on the track. The track is near a watercourse that is tidal & has a large catchment so flooding was on the cards. At one point almost the entire track was submerged but I mused it was now usable, albeit with some hazards & unpleasant smells.

The water here forms part of what is now functioning as a landlocked lake, thanks to some blocked drains.

So Wednesday morning I went out for some laps.

Ended up being a bit of a cobweb blaster rather than anything that would look productive: 15’ tempo, followed by some chats, then 15’ high endurance, then I decided, nah that’s enough. On the surface a wasted session, but it felt good to just get out & ride.

Then yesterday Lachat as prescribed.

Then today as I arrived to knock out James (brought forward from tomorrow), I saw that some absolute legend had raked up all the debris off the track near the clubhouse yesterday. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
HR sensor wigged out at various times today. No big deal.

I definitely appreciate having this facility nearby, & very glad that it’s usable again. Feeling fortunate that my house was spared, :folded_hands: others fared much worse with houses flooded, rooves smashed in by fallen branches.

With the unending craziness of the current US news cycle, I completely missed that you guys had a cyclone. Thanks for sharing. Glad you made out ok, and best wishes for those who didn’t. As someone living in hurricane alley, I feel for you all.

Ah thanks. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Though, I’m pretty poor at keeping track of what’s going on here let alone anywhere else. Strangely though, I have a friend here who sporadically updates me on US politics. :person_shrugging:

Cyclones are really uncommon this far south. The last one that hit here was decades ago. 500km north where I grew up they’re far more common… twice a year sometimes, & much more destructive. Southeastern USA tends to cop it too hey? Yeah it is pretty bothersome when such events happen. :folded_hands:

Just 3 of us out on the usual group ride and we met another mate at the Talbot Hotel cafe. I sat on my fast mate’s wheel to the cafe. He had to get back early though and I made a bit more of a controlled effort on the front.

That’s an interesting cake you’ve got there. Is it a giant biscotti? Something different? I want one!
