What workout did you do today? (2025)

Rolled Garraun today and I guess completing it made TR angry and it’s setting up to kill me. :joy:
I know it will most likely change but the fact that the system has this Powell -3 madness on the mind, oh man

I had the VO2max workout Gendarme+3 in my Calendar tonight and after marking it a ‘Maximum Effort‘ and some intervals where I was well below target, I was expecting a fail survey, which I was going to put down to injury. But I never got a fail. I’ve got a sore inside ankle, I either whacked it on my cranks out side or strained it using ERG (fighting the spiral of death or pulled up to too hard when the resistance automatically became zero after a max interval). So I done tonight’s session in Resistance mode. Tried using the +/- buttons in the first block but it was a bit of a failure when I tried to drink. The next block ran better when I used the shifters instead. Importantly the inside ankle never deteriorated.

Lol, without thinking I threw dinner in the oven, then remembered I had a workout to do. Thankfully it was only an Endurance workout (Echo -5) and I got away with only giving it 15minutes to settle. My other faux pa was forgetting to fill my bottle after last night’s session. An 1/8 of a bottle was right for the session though.

Remembered tonight to put off tea and fill the bottle and I needed it for tonight’s Threshold session (Asta) at least for the first 50minutes until I warmed up (it seemed more doable after that). I was also looking forward to my :fork_and_knife_with_plate:. Then I remembered what I forgot, Tinfoil for the oven tray. Doh, so it was a walk to the a local mini market to buy some and an oven meal which I’m currently waiting on.

AI FTP boosted me last weekend and after two ‘Very Hard’ workouts on Tuesday and Thursday I was supposed to do Izaak Walton -2 today…below my progression levels, should have been ‘Moderate’ at worst. Turned down intensity in the third over/under block, still failed it anyway. Lowered the intensity to 75% for the last over/under and failed that one too. Left the intensity down and did 50% FTP for almost the entire 15 minute endurance block after the last over/under and just decided to quit a few minutes early.

Lowered my FTP back to slightly below where it was before the AI FTP boost that I clearly did not deserve, am skipping my planned lifting session this afternoon, am debating skipping tomorrow’s endurance ride, and am once again musing on the idea that maybe despite the amount of effort I put in I will never be more than mediocre and anything I do. All in all, pretty great training day! :+1:t3:

Virginia. 105 minutes of Z2. It was pretty relentless.

The long rides on the trainer are not too comfy but doable.

Oof. 4 hours is a long time on a trainer. I was cooked after 105 minutes on Saturday. Sure you’re not dumping tons of power, but there just are NO BRAKES. It’s relentless.

TR knew what I wanted tonight. It first gave me what was achievable based on my VO2max PL. It slightly increased the PL tonight but changed it to a 30/30 workout, Grassy Ridge +1. It meant I was in a good state to see the first goal of tonight’s game on the trainer before jumping off to shout for 60+ minutes :scotland::scotland:🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, :denmark: :denmark: America here we come

Did Cookro last week. Yeah I was pretty cookro’d myself after that :joy: Back to over-unders this week and this felt a lot better

Nice. I think I’m starting 30-30s on Thursday

Back to the track for McBride yesterday, with the obligatory Z2 afterwards.

The track is asphalted around a cricket field. I reflected on the interval that was coming up.

I thought, “266 for nine after forty-one? I like a team being willing to take risks.”

That last comment will only make sense to those who know about cricket.

A recovery workout, Colosseum -3 was in my plan tonight.

Third Achievable (below PL) workout in a row but it felt right. I think I actually hit 1 more bpm on tonight’s bookended under/ over session than I did during my VO2max session on Tuesday.

Redemption from my post in the thread from over the weekend. :joy:

I reset my FTP back to what is was before my most recent AI FTP update after my (horribly) failed workout over the weekend and have decided that I am committing to going slightly less hard lifting at the gym and getting a few hundred extra calories every day to help make sure I am recovering better.

Today was Mount Hayes -4, sweet spot work just below my progression level and it was suspiciously easy. In the first interval I was wondering if my power meter was reading low, but I was still sweating quite a lot so it can’t have been off my much, if anything. Definitely could have done an extra 12 minute interval at 88% FTP, but still needed a modicum of focus for the last like 3 minutes. Hopefully getting back on track and staying there…hoping for a big Alpe Du Zwift PR (sub 70 minutes) at the end of my plan at New Years!

I’m jealous of that track, it looks so nice! We hardly even have public running tracks around me, much less any dedicated place for cycling training.

After a bad week workout wise, failed my two hard ones during the week, TR gave me this Achievable.
Felt it was the right workout to get things back on track.

Cadence dropped a lot for the last set. Did another ~30 minutes at 1.8w/kg to get myself to two hours. Only time for a shorter ride tomorrow.

It has its foibles, but is definitely good to have, & fairly convenient. Any type of workout, any time cricket, football, or track racing isn’t on.

Man this felt good
