What workout did you do today? (2021, part 1)

John McCririck for me tonight or as they say in Yorkshire Ebbetts. Or is it pronounced Ebb etts

You can see (or at least I can) at the last segment of the 3rd 8mins block where a drop of sweat fell on my touch pad and minimised TR, the cadence dropped to 68rpm whilst I tried to restore it.

I had the pleasure of doing Avalanche Spire +1.

To be honest, for a 0.88 IF workout it was really rough. I had to take a few minute break after the last two sets.

I find my biggest struggle is less to do with fatigued legs and more with my HR going through the roof. I was able to mitigate this struggle a bit by disabling the HR display (thanks to the fine folks at TR for adding this keybind!).

Then, the cramps settled in half-way through making the pain that much more significant.

Tips and comments are more than welcomed!

Looks like a win to me. Really pushing your limits, which is what it’s all about!

The whole 1.5 hours standing? That’s a whole new level of masochism. :astonished::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I have to ask… Why?

Donner for me today:

as part of SSB LVII. Did well, much better than Tuesday’s shenanigans with Taylor-2 and all that on again-off again stuff.

Carpathian peak. Always a fun one. First time I’ve nailed it

Great question. I am unable to sit on the saddle. Rather then wait I decided to attack and dominate the season. I am unable to ride the rest zones due to the watts being too low and i lose my rhythm, so I do my interval and then wait a few min and attack the next interval. I am keeping the cadence between 60-75 revs. Crappy part is im 205lbs so its a bit of an effort

I did Bald Knob in last week of SSBMV. I don’t know why people look down upon this and Pettit. My legs were glowing by the end.

1x103@91%

Was planned to be 2x50@90%. Was also running the TdZ mountain stage, hoping to crack AdZ in under 60 minutes.(previous best was 64 minutes) 10 minutes into the first set I bumped it up 2%.rode that to the end of the interval. Since I was in an event I didn’t have the AdZ elapsed time and had no clue where I was. Decided to skip the recovery. At the start of the second set I bumped it up another 3%. Rode that until the final turn and cranked it up to 100% of threshold. Finished AdZ in 61 minutes, 13 minutes into the second set. Wasn’t feeling like death so dialed it back to the original intensity and finished it out there for a 1x103 minute interval at ~91%. Might not have got the AdZ in under and hour but I set a pile of ‘all time’ pr’s!

Didn’t want to get on the bike but discipline overcame lack of motivation. Dialed back the 3rd interval to keep RPE reasonable. My legs are pretty crispy this 6th week of SSB2MV (I pushed it a week mid block to complete Festive 500). Leconte is all that’s left…tomorrrow or Sunday night.

My son was in the gym with me and insisted on watching some weird cartoon. I lost it at the halfway mark and ran upstairs for my book.
Happy days.

2 more to go before a recovery week.
McAdie+1 in the morning.

Pettit with Extended Cooldown again today. It comes around quickly each week! Another opportunity to combine with a TDZ stage… this time stage 3 and a trip up ADZ to get that under my belt. Perhaps it was the notion of going up hill on AdZ, or the increase in TSS through extending workouts with some more z2 this week (or combination of both), but this ride felt higher on the RPE front.

Going into a solid weekend of workouts with Clark and Hunter up Saturday and Sunday respectively.

I’ve only ever done this workout three times. I must substitute it, a lot! Thought I’d have a crack today. Felt good and got the majority of it done with my HR comfortably in my endurance zone.

Oh boy, Lamarck was a really solid workout. I really had to focus, get in the zone, concentrate on breathing and my pedal stroke.

The dip after the first interval is me cranking my fan all the way up. After that I completed it with no breaks.

It wasn’t easy but I felt great when it was done.

VO2 max block - week 3, consecutive day 4 :weary:

I’ve been sleeping badly - probably high cortisol from the harder than usual work, Covid anxiety and job interview, so was going to finish the week with all Z2, but as lunchtime approached I thought I might as well bury myself before recovery week!

TR support got me working on the laptop again, so a final hard start day to make a 0.95IF workout even harder. Super painful, quit the hard starts with 2 intervals left just to try and hang on.

I’ve got a massive sausage roll to eat now and a 8% DIPA in the fridge for later, which was my motivation

Clark. This one gets me every time… “Oh, look - 6x8m SS…how hard can that be?” Well, those force stomps just do me in - it takes a good 2-3 minutes to get my breathing back to a proper rhythm, and a real struggle to keep my cadence above 90 where it usually would be. Miserable, but at least it’s done.

Fancied doing the TDZ Alpe Du Zwift event. Been a while since I’ve done a decent effort up there, as I did a sweetspot last week and enjoyed it. Wanted to see if I could still sub hour it. Got to the top in under 56 minutes and wasn’t on the limit. Could lift it at the end.

Surprised I got x55 all time PRS ( 36min-68min) , I’ve had a higher FTP (343w) in the past and I guess I’m due a little bump after next weeks recovery week. Stronger for longer :muscle:
Does show not everything can be represented by that number! It’s just a number to get your workouts in the right place.

Darwin today, those intervals went on and on. Really an exercise in concentration.
