What workout did you do today? (2020, part 1)

42 more miles of zone 2 @19mph. Weather still set fair for tomorrow and Saturday - and I don’t have to work tomorrow due to the VE day celebration bank hol (got the wrong one in my last post!) - not that I would have to go anywhere anyhow. Sunday still looks bloody cold for May but the forecast for snow has thankfully disappeared!

Mt Foraker+2 for me - Log In to TrainerRoad tough but fair would be a reasonable assessment. Not sure why it’s classed as threshold when four of the six intervals are VO2max though

@jdman - I remember being out for a run in the Lake District a few years ago, well maybe twenty, and stopped and wondered what the dog had been rolling in. Then I looked, he had snow on him and so did I. It was midsummer’s day!

Did someone prescribe that for you as a brick? For what event?

Closest thing I’ve done is actually one of my favorite “tune-up” bricks for short course tris:

10 min spin warmup (bike on a trainer…)
5 sets:
2min Z1 spin + 3min at ~110%FTP
transition
Run 800m at goal race pace - :30s. (e.g. if goal pace is 6:00/mi, run the 800s in 2:45).

Hell of a workout… ends up being about 5 sets of 6min hard (with a quick transition in the middle) on 2 min easy rest. Bang that sucker out in under an hour.

What you did? Eeewwwwww.

Ha ha, lord no. I’d decided to line up my interval days, bike in the morning run in the evening but I just knew i would not do the evening session today, so I decided to brick it,

After four intervals I was close to target so actually if I’d kept it up I think the quality was there

Been there… in my youth, especially, I’d decide to sleep in and then back-to-back workouts like that… recover and be fine for the next day. If I did that now, I’d be useless for three days.

Commuted to and from. PM ride straight to trainer for Pierce. This is the first workout in my first TR build phase, and I’ve always been confident in “threshold work” but not so much with O/U. I was anxious coming in given the recent bump in FTP, and the short spin-up time frame for this over/under.

I pegged or overshot all but two of the intervals, but I did get a slightly longer recovery break when I had to show the pest removal expert where to place the squirrel traps… On my roof.

The workout calls for 91 TSS, and I recorded 101…(added just a minute for headspace adjustment from commute to workout at the beginning, and a couple of minutes at the end, because why not?)
Plan was intensity of .85, and I recorded .88.

All in all, nothing to worry about today.

Commute only and maybe some saddle-time padding on the way home… (Riding consistently is important to me, particularly given I know I can usually handle 8+ hours/week of riding, if my life can.)

Lion Rock on Saturday… 150% is a little less intimidating when it’s followed by threshold for 4:45, but I’m certainly not going for a Lion Rock + variant.

MountI Goode this almost made me quit but hung in there even at my new estimated FTP
So happy with that🥳

Couldn’t finish Pallisade today. I define my self worth by my ability to complete workouts, so I need everyone to hit me with your best insults to make me suffer even more.

My best insults are not applicable, unfortunately. They are saved for those with whom I’ve shared a home, and are best shared around Christmas time for maximum effect.

but…

What self-worth are you even trying to define? The inability to make the yellow line match the blue bars is a clear indication that you have no worth, to anyone in this world. (Harsh enough?).

That’s what I’m talking about. I needed that.

Nay, I deserved it.

3x15 tempo with bursts every 3 minutes. First hot workout - 93F / 34C on that first 15 minute interval

Isn’t the bank holiday to celebrate VE Day, potentially the ultimate multinational cooperation…?
It’s not all about Brexit all the time.

Thor -1 for me and one of my biggest “fails” since starting my plan 6 months ago.
Not taking it personally though, a 10% bump in FTP on Monday has made things suddenly very tough.

Oh well, we go on. It’s all good for me.

Yep - corrected that in a later post - getting confused on time and which bank holiday is which with this lockdown…apologies. Still going out for a long ride as the weather is great

Some more outdoor MTB fun was had yesterday. Only an hour but damn, I find so hard to go easy on the mountain bike

Thankfully todays TR session was a relatively straightforward affair. That said, it did take me a little while to get up to speed and I’m looking forward to some endurance work tomorrow.

Another slow pace 60-min run. Weather still not cooperating (frost overnight, a few snowflakes today…), but in winter kit I was ok. After 3 weeks of running + TR, I’m starting to see the usual settling of pace/HR relationship that tells me my running base is coming into place. Another week of this, then on to intervals. Meanwhile, doing SSBLV1 at 2 workouts/week, adjusting duration up as needed.
