My power curve is extremely flat (as evidenced by that awful 5 second PR!) which probably makes it easier. For example, my 10min PB is bit over 380, not massively off my 20min. For 20min, I guess I just know what I have done before and try to go at or above that.
I also do a lot of climbs around 20min, so know that duration pretty well, so i guess my long winded answer to your question is practice

I did a 5 second PB yesterday at 1624 W on a trainer with nonexistent sprint training after last summer. The last few months I have done just base and threshold training. After warm-up I put 4x20 kg plates on the trainer legs so I won’t fall off from a bike.
edit: last week was 740 TSS, it was second proper training week after a long pause because of injuries. I hope I get a good training season before summer and then do well at gravel events.

Bike computer gave a PM low battery notice and then this happened 10 minutes later LOL. Left side PM went into “pro watts, a guy can dream am I right?!” mode for about 3 minutes, then 44 seconds of 0W, and then right side took over and started giving good one-sided power data. First time I’ve had a weird (more than 1-second) power spike on two different Stages power meters in 4+ years. Thankfully GoldenCheetah is good for something - fixing the 4 minutes and spitting out a new .fit file.
