Very large increase in workout levels after 1 week

Hi all TR has bumped my workout levels from 1.4 to 6.9 after a week of training.

I have had a long stretch of non training due to life getting in the way. My ftp level was dropped down by the app.

I completed a week of ftp builder and suddenly the workout levels have shot right up and look seriously difficult. Is this expected behaviour. All of my previous stints with TR have had steady increases.

Hey there!

I’ve taken a look at your calendar, and this is all intentional behavior. :slightly_smiling_face:

We’re continuing to release improvements to the way we recommend workouts as we constantly analyze data and work with new models to find ways to do an even better job of making people faster. These higher-level workouts you’re seeing are what we currently think are the best options for you.

There will be an announcement on this in the future, but for now, this is just us shipping updates where we feel it can have a positive impact for athletes right now, since we’re confident that you’ll benefit from the changes.

Give those workouts a try and let us know how they go!

From what I have seen, TR is moving away from their slow and steady improvement model that was aimed at everyone. Starting low and working your way up in all levels no matter if you were stronger in 1 level. Now they are making it more of an individual plan. They will test you and see where you at in each level. I think this is what you are seeing. They are trying to understand your base levels. After you do a few workouts and rate them I believe the plan will drop back to slowly increase each level.

@ukjim obviously TR AI has analyzed your first few workouts and identified you as an absolute weapon.

I have been called an absolute weapon many times. Never about my cycling though. 6.9 sweet spot. Was not sweet. Finished it just.

@ukjim it did look like you were hanging on the last third of that that last interval but only just.

You’ve got guts, at least. Good work.

Good work on getting the 6.9 workout done.

What is it suggesting for your next sweet spot workout?

Vendano +1 7.1 sweet spot….

Gulp

Vendano+1 is just an extra minute at the same intensity (for each interval). I’m 100% sure you can do it.

Not sure I’m a fan of this. My sweet spot went from 5 something to 8.6 last night. Normally I enjoy sweet spot because it’s hard enough to know you’re working, but not so hard that I consider switching back to golf as my hobby. I barely finished it last night and my legs are really tired today.

Put Maximum Effort as your response to the post workout survey and see what it serves you up next time. If it isn’t to your fancy, choose an easier one from the workout catalogue.

But congratulate yourself on completing the 8.6 workout

I put Hard. If there was a choice in between Hard and Very Hard I would have selected that. Interestingly Sunday I completed a 7.0 Threshold and had a 7.5 Threshold coming up Saturday, but now that’s been adapted down to a 5.5.

Hard and Very Hard are both options

I suggested Maximum effort based on you writing that you barely finished it, which is the exact wording used in the All Out rating description in the trainer road support article

https://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404884465563-Post-Workout-Surveys

You can, of course, switch the adapted threshold workout if you want to. Do you think you will be recovered from the big sweetspot effort sufficiently to go for a >7.0?

Yea, I wanted option 3.5😂. I have my normal Endurance 5.1 tonight that’s usually Easy, so I’ll see how that goes. I’ve just never seen a workout adapt down so far as the upcoming Threshold so I was really surprised by that. They obviously have something new that’s working in the background, or a bug.
