Using TrainerRoad App breaks imported garmin activity

Ok, the scenario is a bit odd.

I have a Peloton and a Garmin watch. I use an app that imports Peloton activities as Tacx trainer activities. So I get all metrics from the workouts.

Trainer Road only allows exporting Outdoor activities to Garmin. So my workflow has been:

  • Change Indoor → Outdoor
  • Sync to Garmin
  • Use Garmin Watch Activity for interval prompts, HR, etc. on the Peloton
  • Discard garmin activity, sync Peloton activity.

This imports the garmin Tacx activity to TR and matches it to the scheduled workout. Ok, all good.

But you miss out on things like AI FTP etc since TR won’t use outdoor activities for that.

So I decided to try a different workflow to see what happens:

  • Use the TR app to do the Indoor activity. Ignore the missing devices, just use it for the prompts
  • perform activity on Peloton
  • Export peloton activity to garmin as Tacx, let it sync

I was curious if TR would merge the two activities and, so, get the metrics and power for the indoor TR from the Tacx garmin activity.

What actually happened is it did import the Garmin activity and it did match it to the completed indoor activity. But it overrode all the Tacx activity metrics with zeros. So no power, HR, cadence, etc.

I had to unpair the activity, delete them, manually upload the TCX file downloaded from garmin, then match it with the scheduled TR workout.

Thought I’d share. It seems the more desirable behavior would be to accept the trainer activity as truth and import it’s metrics to the planned workout.

Thanks for the feedback – I’ll pass this info along to the rest of the TR team!
