I don’t think it matters at all though. Unless it was enough to alter the power profile of the ride in which case I guess it would make sense to restart the ride.
It doesn’t matter in any case. The AI doesn’t know anything about Athlete Levels, it only knows watts, heart rate, and time.
One thing I thought of over the weekend. If all you care about is your Athlete Levels you could do all your workouts as outdoor workouts even if you’re doing them inside. You could get off your bike as often as you want, but you’ll always get the full Athlete Levels
Well here’s an interesting one. Redfield: threshold mixed intervals. Not a difficult workout. About 2 mins paused between the warmup & first set, but then I cut down the recovery after set 1 by about 2 mins, then the recovery after set 2 by about 3 mins. Then filled in most of the intra-set recoveries with Z2, & added some lumpy Z2 to the end. Got the notice about the pause lowering the score even though all scores exceeded prescribed (notably threshold, given this is classified as a threshold workout)… except for VO2max, probably yes the pause at the start, but probably also because I missed most of the VO2 targets by a few watts, mostly because of trying to find the level without overshooting too much. It all seems fairly plausible & working as intended.
All that needs doing is for them to put the word “may have” in the warning.
“…of pauses may have lowered your score”
Disagree if that rest interval is like 5 minutes as the goal is complete recovery.
If they just add “may have” it would stop half the posts on this topic.
But the math is super fuzzy. 90 seconds during a 90 minute ride will reduce the score at lest 10% while the physiological effect is most likely negligible.
True - maybe it’s a conspiracy to drive up engagement on the forum ![]()
