So far my event in September hasn’t been cancelled or postponed, so I’m using the time for increased volume, managed 31.5 hours of running and riding in April, ftp up to the highest in recent times at 3.22w/k and I’ve lost 2 kilo!
Completes the Ironman virtual Santini sprint event but nothing since.
Plan builder calendar seems to be going very well, next ramp test in about 3 weeks. Currently on low volume but adding in around 3 zone 2 rides between workouts and runs
Don’t really wanna go back to work to be honest!

@JoeX thanks for wrangling the cats here.

I was in for Ironman Barcelona. I just googled it to see if the status changed and I hadn’t seen the update and the title of the IM site really has new meaning: “IRONMAN Barcelona - Anything is Possible!” It’s still on and at present, I’m back on the fence to do it. I’m doing a 180km gravel race the weekend before (postponed from last month), which is more interesting and appealing to me. I haven’t swam since mid Jan and I’ve done virtually no running this year as I’ve been focused on the bike, generally gravel. That said, I’ve been racking up cycling TSS with 700-850 / wk. CTL is presently 92 as this week has been lighter than usual (bent the front ring of my gravel bike).

Finally starting to lose weight. Planning on returning to my weight of Jan '18, which means 7kg to go. :unamused: We shall see what happens. Barcelona, if I do it, will just be a catered workout.

Still waiting for official word on the cancellation for IM-Vitoria, but rumour mill has it being cancelled as well as still going ahead :). - Personally, I would be surprised if it goes ahead, so have cancelled accommodation and all logistics and will just wait for the official word and then defer to next year’s race. If it does go ahead, then there may be a scramble to decide what I will do and re-book everything.

Have picked up a couple of niggles over the last few weeks, so just taking it easy and hoping to start back in earnest next week - probably focussing on a plan that lands me at IM-Barcelona in October.

If you want to do a 180km gravel “warm-up” the weekend before Barcelona, it’s just a few (5) hours south in Busot. @JoeX you were interested in Barcelona, too. Perhaps a TR meet up the weekend before?

Still training as if Wales is still on. Well, biking.

FTP increase to 266w this week which is good.

Still struggling to run but got a massage gun and my calf/achilles/plantar is really easing off now. Going to get a short run in this weekend and hopefully have a good May where I get up to 3 runs a week.

Just need to strip weight back and get miles in the legs running, stay on the same bike trajectory.

Swim will be ok. 1:10 worst case if I don’t train, 1:05 if I do, based on previous races.

LOL. I’m exactly the same. I got a call from senior management yesterday: “Technically we all have to be back at work from Monday…,but you’re able to do your work remotely, so just keep working from home”

Some people being brought back from furlough already at our place but think I will be one of the last as I have 6 year old twins and my wife is classed as a key worker.

Hoping for another month or 2 off :joy:

Fingers crossed for Barcelona, definitely a TR meetup before if it goes ahead…but depends on what the family is doing

That’s quite a productive month @JoeX. I did VR2, but running in my yard was painful. We are now allowed to run/cycle outdoors, within a 5km radius of home, between 6am-9am. So I might attempt another one when it’s oly/sprint again

Pretty descent effort there. Keep up the good work.

Those are nice numbers. Hoping to get there in the next 2 months or so if all goes well.

Congrats. What was it previously?

Mmm, I think I’m going to need to make a decision the middle of June - switch to IM plan, or continue the bike focus and assume it will be “postponed”.

Was 250.

I tested at 259 in October but had a bike crash then a series of injuries coming back so I set it at 250 and have had a few consistent weeks now.

Pretty much stopped training for IMUK2020 at the start of march, before the lockdown, but when it was pretty clear a pandemic was about to be announced. Knew then it was 99% inevitable that it would be cancelled for 2020.

Scrapped the TR training plan and returned to general below FTP work. Since then been route grabbing on Zwift, slowly building up endurance with longer routes.

Started doing long walks in the local area. 50mi/80km in April. Will be jogging at low intensity in May. No swimming of course atm. Even open water places are shut until June earliest.

In general, no events planned now for 2020. A long steady summer building up endurance before starting a new TR plan in late sept for the 2021 season. May do sportives in Oct if any available.

Will be deferring IMUK2020 to 2021 when they process things. Should be a pretty full field next year.

Just had the best and most consistent month of bike and run training of my life.

Ran every day of April at least 5k, had 8 10K’s+ and then 3 half marathons.
Started a LV build, put in Outlaw X into plan builder, not sure if I will do it but it was a convinient date, also doing 1 Petit +1 and 1 baxter -1 on the 10k run days.

Fitness is going through the roof.

I took 2 weeks off for my birthday and a super stressful work week. Came back and decided to try out SSBMV and 6 days of BarryP running. Ramp test dropped me from 305 to 290 after that time off, but I’m thinking of raising it back up a few % of that as the rides have all been feeling really good.

The increased cycling volume has been good so far, and SS base has been a nice change of pace from the half distance base plans. Without commuting or swimming I have had time for the 5 rides which has been nice, but I am running out of Netflix shows that I had queued up.

BarryP running has also been an interesting change, I am doing the full 6 weekly runs. I was only consistently ~1:45/week of running so I cut it back a pinch (to get used to the higher cycling volume) and I started at 15 minutes for all three run types (1.5 hrs total) and I am adding to the mid and long runs every week like described in the Advanced Beyond Beginner Stage post. Since I went too hard too fast last year (only started training ~1 year ago) and got an Achilles strain I’m going to try and keep the running increases slower than I want, but consistency and lack of injury will be better than breaking.

I don’t really plan on doing any swim work as I really need a coach and consistent training options for it to be worth it. Plus my first potential race will be less of a swim concern.

I officially got the 70.3 Madison deferral option yesterday so I changed over to the easier Augusta course. For my first race the down stream swim and flatter bike course will be good. Hopefully things are a bit calmer and more understood by September 27th!

It’s bretzky  I’m focusing on fall races at this point. ( They might happen, they might not). Niagara Falls Barrelman, then head to Asia for Langkawi 70.3, and Xiamen 70.3. Keep building the base then ramp it up when the time come comes.

Oooh, I forgot about Barrelman. It is relatively local to me so that could be a good one to jump into if things start happening again!

Hey @JoeX, I like the call outs and the check-ins. Makes it feel like I am training for something even though my calendar is basically empty (or will be soon)

Technically all my races are a “go” but I think we all know where they stand, so I have assumed they are binned and if they show up I’ll deal with it when it happens. Might even just throw the IM into next year anyways because I would prefer to have a vaccine hopefully available before we have 1000 people in one area.

Got over my “flu” (no idea what it was) and took me like 5 weeks… still coughing a bit but its completely cleared up otherwise, which is nice.

I have been running a lot lately with the weather becoming nicer and knocking 75-80km/wk which I have never really done consistently. Hopefully this helps my marathon legs. If I can use this down time to get a lot of mileage down I think I will notice a big improvement in my run times and resilience.

In other news, I have been doing Zwift races/events and joined my first “Hounds and Hares” event. Like an idiot, I signed up for the “A” group (hounds) with the naive idea that they would hold something around 4w/kg.
3 mins to start and someone stated “we need to hold 5w/kg for the first 10km to catch”…
Me-wut.jpeg?
Yeah the A group was a big big big mistake. I held on for the first 25km before being spit out in the last 5km. Held around 4.3-4.4w/kg for 40-45 mins and then blew up. On a positive note Zwift estimated my FTP only slightly lower than what I had pre sickness and my power numbers seemed decent (although with me sitting up). The problem is now ZwiftPower put me into the Minimum A Category… so now I have to race with freaks… Hahaha, a mixed blessing I guess. Upgrade was awesome but now I am going to just die every single race I do :frowning:

I hope you are all keeping healthy and doing what you can in the situation. Really realizing again why I do SBR (sans S) again. Not sure if I love doing long long stuff over 2h, but yeah. I guess I don’t need a race carrot to chase to keep doing what I love. Also a good thing I guess to avoid the dreaded “Covid 25” hahaha!
