The greatest announcer most ... have never heard

I know this will trigger some folks. I’ve moved on to the GCN +/Eurosport coverage, which I think is better. A few years ago when it was Phil and Paul, I have to say I enjoyed them, although I was quite a bit ignorant of what I was listening to. My maybe controversial take is that its all about a wash. If I had to listen to Phil, I’d be okay. The commercials and the weaker actual footage/coverage of the race is what would push me elsewhere.

Carlton Kirby…this man is amazing…I know he’s a Marmite commentator but I find him hilarious. Read his book too…the magic spanner

Oh god….Phil is long past his expiration date. I can’t stand listening to him anymore and go to great lengths to avoid his commentary. He continually wrongly identifies riders, misses crucial moments in the action and completely misrepresents tactics that are going on.

He was great….but it was long ago.

“what a day!”

He and Joanna Rowsell Shand make a good double act on the track cycling champions League that is on Eurosport/gcn at the moment.

I’m a rob hatch fan too.

Agreed - Carlton is the only announcer who makes me laugh out loud on the trainer, although I think he needs to retire the “lets see if Hoover can clean up in this one” joke now…
