Zwift uses RPE 1-10 and they also have subjectives on how it felt. For instance 4/10 is comfortable in zwift but TR says its moderate but in reality its between moderate and easy. Why is TR not using the gold standard? It makes rating confusing for me.
That manual check volume. Can you make it automatic?
For quick reference, here are our descriptions of each response:
How to Rate Your Effort
Easy
This ride felt easy and non-taxing, requiring little effort or focus. You could repeat the ride and pass it without issue.
Moderate
This ride was somewhat comfortable but required some focus to complete. You felt a little challenged but had confidence that you could finish. If the ride had an additional set of intervals, you could complete it.
Hard
This ride required effort and focus and was challenging to complete. It felt tough, and you looked forward to the ride ending. If there were an additional set of intervals, you could have done it with significant focus.
Very Hard
This ride was very difficult to complete, and it tested you. If there were one more set of intervals, you wouldn’t have been able to complete it.
Maximum Effort
This ride was extremely difficult. It pushed you well beyond your abilities and took a massive amount of energy and focus to complete. You’ll feel like you barely made it to the end of this ride, and that you had to pull out every mental trick in the book to finish. If you had to pause during a workout to catch your breath or adjust the power demand down, the workout was likely a max effort.
If a workout was a maximum effort because of external factors like illness, poor sleep, or fatigue, be sure to add that detail in the follow-up survey.
Regarding check volume, I can elaborate a bit more. After update my FTP jumped from 277 to 295 and between starting specialty phase, being ill for a week and a bit more life stress then usual I started failing high intensity sessions. Now my FTP is at 283 so thats good, but my end of plan fatigue kicked in and I totally forgot about checking my volume. So yesterday or before yesterday I went down a notch to balanced and today switched back up to demanding and instantly saw that TR recommended lower volume and it totally made sense. I would presume like with everything in life there are two camps regarding volume automation. I would love a checked box to making it automatic - maybe more then one option - start of week, every month, with ftp check, start of new phase, …
As of late I feel like the Volume Check has been a bit broken.
My example I’ve always trained 5 days a week around six hours.
After the TR AI update Volume Check wants me to train only three day per week.
I thought after it saw a few week of training at 5 day per week, it would adapt yet still it want 3 days.
As per the AIFTP Prediction I get the best results on a 5 day training schedule so I’ve been sticking with that so far but letting TR altar the times when needed.
I’ll see what happened in the spring when I start spring more outside.
I just tried mine and I think I’d tend to agree.
I’m not struggling with fatigue at all, it’s time I struggle with, but when I pressed “check volume” it suggested I go down from 7hours to 5hours.
The good thing is that with Dynamic endurance and the ability for TR to change your workout time wise, I feel that this help in meeting Volume halfway at least.
