I understand that making the training approach more aggressive won’t necessarily mean a higher prediction or be a better outcome, but does a more conservative approach mean more yellow and red days? Is it more apt to make your workouts easier? If so, will that then lower your prediction, and subsequent detection?
As far as I understand the relation between the two, the training approach tells the AI how aggressively it should try to increase your progression of your workout intensity if you successfully complete them.
There’s no simple direct relation between the training approach and your prediction, as it depends to a large part on your training history and what the AI has learned from its training data on how your individual training is likely to progress according to the data and the selected approach. If you selected more aggressive approach than it thinks will be good for you, the prediction might decrease. Same if the approach is to conservative for your current level.
By default, balanced is the best approach, though you might have faster results as a athlete with sufficient time and experience on harder workouts.
This is a pretty good summary here ![]()
Thanks @martenk!
Yeah, I probably could have explained my question better.
What I’m saying is, Training Approach might show the same future results whether it’s Balanced or Demanding, but with Balanced, if you do more than planned the AI might assume you can’t absorb that training and actually lower its prediction (ie, it’s quicker to flag overtraining). Demanding might look the same on day one -or even worse- but as you do workouts, it won’t be as apt to downgrade prediction based on you doing more work than expected, and also will give you more latitude on choosing harder workouts before calling them ‘Not Recommended’.
I don’t think it works quite this way. The training approach really only directs how your future workouts are selected. Just because you selected a more aggressive approach doesn’t necessarily mean it will tolerate additional work better and increase the prediction instead of decreasing it.
But I’m also going mostly by own, limited experience. @eddie can probably tell you better how the AI and the approach come together for your scenario
In my very limited use of that slider - it either hasn’t seemed to effect my plan significantly OR possibly a bit less likely to go into a workout downgrade spiral when you push TSS up. I don’t believe from what I can tell that it effects the Yellow/Red day’s , but without a ‘fatigue score’ rating anywhere, sure hard to tell.
Workouts didn’t get much different… yellow days showed up in the typical expect spots for me, either shows up Yellow on Sunday for my Dynamic Enduro ride (due to my 2-2.5hr long run) or shows up Monday after 2-3hr long endurance ride Sunday. Or…. pushes further into Tuesday’s vo2max interval day :-/ due to Monday super easy recovery run and gym session… lol Never see a red day, so must be doing it just fine
lol
