Passive, background TR desktop app interferes with Zwift power readings

Hola,

Not a major bug, but if the TR app is open in the background (not active, no workout running, just the career page open), then it interferes with the power readings when running Zwift on the same laptop. Makes regular pings which set the power readings to zero momentarily…

You can see the regular drops here, until I quit the TR app, then it was correct.

This is on Mac OS, using latest TR desktop app and latest Zwift app.

pretty normal, shut down any other app that might try to connect. This has happened both ways with zwift or similar apps grabbing it while in a TR workout for people.

This has happened to people with a partner opened a laptop that paired to a shared bike.

I had this happen recently where about 45 min into a workout my phone would grab my HR for some reason and disconnect it from TR, switching to ant+ in TR for HR helped there.

Just shut down anything that might grab it.

Unpairing the trainer from TR would also likely be an option - however, the best guarantee is closing TR as others have said. Alternatively pair Zwift using bluetooth and TR using ANT+ or the other way round (if that’s an option)

I was just surprised it was doing this when the TR app was passive, when not running a workout. Use case was flicking back and forth between apps trying to get workouts from TR calendar to sync in my Zwift workouts.

No problem to close the TR app when starting the Zwift workout, just wanted to share the experience in case it saves other users a few minutes of head scratching.

Yeah this has come up before on the forum.

The app is never passive when it comes to connections - if its open then its trying to connect to your sensors.

This was particularly annoying when you are on your trainer and you wanted to check your TR calendar on your phone at the same time.

Fortunately after this new update the mobile web version of the website is pretty much identical to the app so you shouldn’t have to touch the app at all unless you are using it to run a workout.
