NorCal and EJ divorce

I have been enjoying EJ’s new channel. I do agree with some the ‘wats up bruh’ vibe he sometimes has is a little off putting but the content is compelling to me. He does seem like a sincere guy and his journey has been interesting.

FWIW I am 31 y/o so maybe I just am closer to the suited demographic.

It almost felt like he became a pro cyclist overnight with his time availability.

For someone who started serious road cycling a year before he did, his power numbers and his progression certainly hurts the ego a bit. I believe he stated he was a baseball pitcher in college so I assume there is some athletic base there. But still, he certainly won some gene lottery while I didn’t even get a ticket.

Edit: Just did the Strava side by side profile comparison feature with Ej’s profile and he is averaging over twice the distance as me on a weekly basis and almost double the cumulative time YTD.

So I feel a little better.

Don’t Let Comparison Be the Thief of Joy

As much as I enjoy Jeff and have valued his tips, I sometimes have to take a deep breath when faced with how male-dominated his channel always is. EJ wasn’t helping with that. He seems nice enough, but I’m definitely not the target demographic and I’m not sad to see them separate.

That’s a great point along with @Mccarthyryd’s.

Would like to see true average, time crunched people with families. Would be a bit inspirational. I think S1 was more like that but I already forgot what happened there.

This is totally true. In the same video he says he was working himself to death, he mentions that he trains 15-20 hours per week and drives to a weeknight training race 3 hours away.

That said, his early content has been great, beautifully shot and edited, and I do get the impression he’s a genuinely nice kid with tons of potential as more than a cyclist. Also, seems he listened to all of us and others on having less of his “frosted flake” buddy.

I feel sorry for his co-host, everyone just hate him. He EJ doesnt need to cut him, the guy just needs to tone it down. Less sunglasses lens flips please.

I hope the Norcal 2 channel will eventually offer something other than full races again. I really enjoyed the mixed content the other channel provided, Couch2Crit included.

Now that Jeff has renamed the 2nd channel “Norcal full races” it’s clear what his intention is, however I don’t know how many people are just going to watch 1hr+ of him riding a crit race

I really like them for riding the trainer. It’s one thing that got me into TrainerRoad. When Jonathan, Nate, and Pete were doing a bunch of races and race analysis videos. They used to have full races also. I bet I’ve watched them all a few times.

mitch seems like a nice guy, but he reminds me of ‘Tweek’ from southpark. thats who he is and as long as he’s a good person thats all that matters. its been mentioned many times already that EJ’s channel and personality appeal to a totally different demographic. young guys. its a vlog and you dont generally learn a lot from a vlog. Jeff’s channel is hugely informative. His race analysis and tactical breakdown is 2nd to none. very little fluff in his videos. im 42. ill give EJs channel a chance for a few episodes but i wont hold my breath that it’ll keep me interested for long. maybe he’ll prove me wrong.

I read an article years ago about an actor that needed to ‘get buff’ for a movie, and lost 30 pounds, and got monstrously ripped in something like 4 months. I was instantly envious, and then read the process they went trough: 5 days a week, 4+ hours a day with a trainer, plus a dietician, a masseuse, a physical therapist, and a psychologist. Plus they were paid for the time. So, if only… If only someone would buy me the same crew, I’d be a contender… :flushed:

That is just what I need! More of not a life that I already do not have, and alienating any friends that I don’t have too.

There are people that believe that ‘Hollywood People’ drink fetus blood, so I guess that could be added to the list as well.

I’ve been trying to remember who the actor was, in the article. One footnote was that they might have ‘over-trained’ him, because he looked ‘too good’. I can’t imagine looking ‘too good’. Inconceivable!! I did get to the point I ‘full stacked’ my BowFlex. My wife said I had a better ‘rack’ than most of the women she knew. Well, that was the goal. :sunglasses:

But now, age and gravity is catching up. I NEED A PERSONAL TRAINER!! Not ready to give up, just am under-tall, and under-capitalized I guess…

Still enjoying his channel but my goodness you’re a goner if you try to play a drinking game along the lines of “take a shot every time EJ says the word ‘vibes’”. :headstone:

Would you say you don’t like the… vibes?

Presumably this game would be called something like “vibe to imbibe”?

Welp EJ posted a new video announcing that he got a job as a video dude for Mikes Bikes and he’s going to dial back the racing to one more race this year and that’s it. I guess trying to force yourself to have interest in a difficult sport in an effort to become an influencer doesn’t work or is a recipe for burnout. HIs content got a little old after a while though YEW YEW!

I guess he got what he really wanted which is a sort of “sponsorship” from Pon. Maybe a bit of a relief after the musical chairs of coaches and teams he associated with. I checked out the Mikes channel and it’s pretty ho hum marketing short-form stuff of only Pon brands. Maybe EJ will liven it up a little.

No balance in his life with his focus on training, racing, promoting himself etc leading to burnout. It’s a lot to do when you are so new to the sport. Good luck with his new endeavor. Seems like he’s doing more and enjoying it.
