Local Raleigh/RTP Beta: 3D Scan-Based Aero Visualization for TT/Tri Positions

Local Raleigh/RTP Beta: 3D Scan-Based Aero Visualization for TT/Tri Positions

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a local aero-analysis project in the Raleigh/RTP area called Aero-Tunes Cycling Air Dyno, and I’m looking for a small group of local TT/triathlon riders to help beta test the workflow.

The idea is to move beyond simple 2D photos, position sliders, or generic rider avatars. Instead, we capture a real 3D scan of the rider and bike together, then process that geometry through a controlled digital airflow simulation to visualize pressure loading, velocity behavior, and wake formation around the actual rider position.

This is not meant to replace field testing, Chung method testing, power data, or real-world validation. I see it as another layer: a way to visually understand where the air is interacting with your actual position before deciding what positions, equipment changes, or fit adjustments are worth testing outside.

For this first beta, I’m looking for 5–6 riders in the Raleigh / Wake County / Triangle area, especially:

- TT riders

- Triathletes

- Riders with aero bars

- Riders already using power data

- Riders interested in position comparison

How the beta works:

1. You set your bike up on a stationary trainer, ideally in your normal TT/tri position.

2. I bring the mobile scan setup to you locally.

3. We capture a short 3D scan of you on your actual bike.

4. The scan is processed into an Air Dyno report showing pressure, airflow velocity, streamlines, and wake behavior around your rider/bike position.

The report will include:

- Air P pressure map

- Air U airflow / velocity visualization

- Streamline and wake behavior

- Basic notes on areas worth testing further

I’m especially looking for feedback on the report layout, visuals, and what type of information would actually be useful to riders, coaches, and fitters.

This is a limited paid beta, but I’m keeping it small and local while the workflow and report format are being finalized. Details by DM.

If you’re in the Raleigh/RTP/Triangle area and want to be part of the first test group, reply here or send me a message.
