So I am new to structured training. I have been riding for about 6 years. I started plateuing and figure I give TrainerRoad a try.
I was unemployed during the summer and my Average TSS was over 800-1500 Every week during the summer. I started working again and obviously my TSS is way closer to 400-500. If I used the “Balanced” option when creating a training plan, its having me do over 10-12 hours per week. I have been doing it for 2-3 weeks now and it seems I am constantly tired. I suspect it’s seeing the TSS from the summer and averaging it out from there.
Is it just because it’s a new workout routine? should I change the workout to “Moderate” instead?
If you’re feeling consistently fatigued and unmotivated to get those key workouts in, you could definitely try changing your training approach or simply editing your schedule to be a bit more in line with what you’re looking for.
Aside from modifying your plan, how is your nutrition and recovery looking?
There are plenty of ways to make room in your schedule, though!
You could bump down Thursday and/or Saturday’s hard workouts from 90 to 60 minutes, shorten your Friday solo rides, or cut out Mondays altogether, since they are mostly recovery rides.
Your training approach is one way to adjust your training, but it doesn’t only control volume. If you need less volume, it’s better to do that by editing your training schedule.
